2000 SSEi stalling out

Post by shSSEi »

About a week ago I was driving through a car dealership, not going more than 5mph and I noticed that my engine turned off. It turned back on fine, but it would continue to stall at anything just over an idle. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and had it diagnosed. Their machine said it was the throttle position sensor, so I replaced it. After that my car was running like normal until last night I was backing into the garage, and it stalled on me again. But then when I took it out this morning it was running fine. :dontknow: Does anyone know what might have been causing the stalling and what I need to do to fix it?

Right at idle it stayed on but was at about 500rpm. It was when I just feathered the throttle and let off that it would stall.

Disconnect the MAF sensor and see if this condition improves. The car will run w/o the MAF.

Clean the IAC while you are at it.

Coulda have saved yourself some money also if you would have actually tested the TPS.

Well, I removed the maf, but when I did it made the car run a lot worse. Where is the IAC located? I apologize for my lack of mechanical experience, this is a good learning opportunity for me.

It doesn't seem to want to stall anymore, but at times it just doesn't act like it knows when to shift.

This is the idle air control. Remove it, and clean the pintle, as well as the throttle body passages. Did you physically remove the MAF, or just disconnect it? If you removed it, you will have a large vacuum leak that will cause the engine to run poorly. Try it with just the connector removed, but the MAF in place.
