speakers cut out at high volume.

Hi guys, Ive noticed that my stock speakers cut out when I crank my system. The amp keeps pounding, but my door and deck speakers go dead. Ive noticed that this is the worst when I have the fader set to zero. Either all front, or all rear its not as bad. Ive also noticed that my tweeter in the door is not working anymore, could this be related, or is this a different animal all together?

Do you have the speakers amped, or are they running off of the deck's power?

This is a bad scenario. If you have a dead tweeter, you should at the very least disconnect it. If any part of the coil has shorted, it will pull extreme current from your amp (regardless of whether it is a separate amp or the amp built into the HU), and if you haven't already, you stand a decent chance of damaging components in the amp circuitry.
Please pay careful attention if you disconnect the tweeter to keep the freed connections from touching each other, and hook them up to a working tweeter as soon as you can get one.
If the tweeter is the entire cause of your problem and you do not have additional damage, disconnecting it will have the effect of restoring proper operation, and saving your system from damage. Disconnect, and get yourself a replacement tweeter.

Thanks for the reply's, I'm actually relieved now, at least I know whats going on. My speakers are running off the deck, only the sub is amped. I will be disconnecting my tweets as soon as I get home, (I'm camping in niagra falls right now.) Thanks again.

If you only have one dead tweeter, you only need to disconnect that one. If they're both dead, disconnect both. Tape the ends of those free wires so they don't touch anything, until you can get replacement tweeter(s).

but dont tape the wire together...

Exactly! Definitely do NOT tape the ends *together*. Individually wrap a bit of electrical tape around the end of each wire, until you can put in a new tweeter.
(I didn't notice that it could be interpreted wrong. Do NOT tape the ends together.)
