has anyone used the sensor that you can get off e-bay for 19.99? i had recently purchased this myself and the wiring harness was identical to original. will this piece as a whole interchange? i did not use the harness part itself. matter of fact i did not get to use any of it. i went to knock the center pivot piece of out and the whole thing broke. (was skeptical of using the harness and all because i have not heard of anyone using the harness. but what was i thinking trying to mess with cheap e-bay plastic parts ) guess i am going to spend another $40 bucks now and go to the dealer tomorrow. any tricks to getting this apart so i dont waste more money?

If you have not already seen all three parts of this excellent video, it is highly recommended!

i have seen the videos. the e-bay part probably was just cheap plastic. even after the piece was broken i could not get the plastic off of the brass piece and ended up breaking the piece that pivots trying to get it apart.

If you shop around you can find the GM part (with harness, etc) for less than $40... I have seen it as low as $26 + shipping.

the one that i had ordered was identical to the original for 19.99-free shipping. the wires were same color, connectors were same color. just havnt heard of anyone on here saying that the whole thing would work. all i have seen is were some one would say that that the pivoting piece would work or to get the GM part and swap pivoting parts.

Would you post the link to the Ebay item you're talking about?

If the whole thing would replace the $140 Delphi/ACDelco part, it might be worth just switching the whole thing without breaking out the rotating contact arm.

if you add your vehicle in the year/make/model compatibility finder, it says not compatible but looks exactly like original.

there are a lot of similar for same price, but i came up with a compatibility number of MU1777. make sure this number is in the compatibility chart,and it should be identical to the original.


i bought the $40 gm part today and had it changed in no time. everything went just like the you-tube vids.
i would not recommend the e-bay part if you are going to disassemble the parts. but i am curious if the whole harness will interchange. the guy has a lot of listings so this part would be readily available. it would save time and money if the harness will indeed work.

The most important part in the disassembly process is supporting the sender unit while attempting to knock out the brass pin. Instead of using 2 socket as shown in the video, I used my vise. I opened the vise jaws just enough to support the sender unit and using a nail punch and hammer, I tapped the brass pin out.

I got the dealer part for about $40 and used the harness and all. Had to, the plugs didn't match up. After having everything wired up it still reads empty all the time. I have to take it to the dealer to have them run a diagnostic for something else so I may have them review my work and see what they think. Those videos are a lifesaver.
