Transmission woes...

(Not mine)

My brother, who is an accomplished mechanic said that today when he was backing out of his driveway, he put his 2000 SSEi into reverse and heard a clunk but he backed out just fine. Once he was in the road, he put the car in drive and it had virtually no first gear at all. He is pretty much positive the tranny is toast. Fluid level is fine, but even manually pulled into first, he said that it is slipping so bad that it is like driving a manual with the clutch halfway depressed.

So he made some calls to source a tranny locally, but could only find one...

Now here is the confusing part. The guy at the salvage yard said it was a 2001 tranny but would not work in his 2000. He stated that they were completely different transmissions.
Uh....Huh?

Anyone want to give me a tranny source that actually seems to know what they are talking about?

Not sure what the differences are, but they look ata book that tells them what is applicable by the codes on the trans. I ran into the same issue, so mine got rebuilt.

I do not know if they will swap or not, but for the 2k+ it seems they all say year specific only.

The 2001 ssei has a transmission that is an entity unto itself...will fit only 2001 ssei's, so maybe that's the one the wrecker has.

It's something with the internal wiring or something.
