I have a 2003 SLE with a 3.8. Guy at work was telling me horror stories about this motor shucking timing chainns at 75K and bending valves. Any truth to this? I have 74K on it.

AFAIK, never ever heard an issue.
Im at 170,000 on the stock chain.
These engines are *dang* bulletproof, minus the UIM on the N/A motors and the LIM gasket issues on N/A and 'charged motors(L36 and L67 respectively.)

Nope, timing chains are not an issue on these motors.

The guy at your work has them mixed up. The early H-bodies with the LG3 3.8 has the timing component problems. They had nylon toothed cam sprockets that would wear down and throw the chain off, causing a serious problem.
Your 3800 will be fine for another 150k or so. It rarely happens, but I have heard of chains going on 3800s with more than 200k....they just eventually wear like many things do.

Sounds like he was talking out of his rear w/o actually knowing what he was talking about...
