yet another reason to not go to Aamco

I just took my car to Plaza Tire here to get my car inspected. The trans cooler line came off in their shop. Seems that they hose clamped the trans cooler line on and it came loose. Made an embarrassing mess in their shop. LAME.

That's lame. Hose clamps on a transmission line have to hold all of 4-5 PSI, I've heard. And to think they couldn't be bothered to double-clamp a hose going onto a straight steel line.
There are lots of hose clamps making up the customized transmission lines on my car. None of them have blown off in the years they've been on there (knock on wood).

Is the fluid okay?

Yep. They filled it like they said they did. When it leaked out, the fluid looked good as new. I'm gonna wait until I get paid, then go have it towed to a trans shop that I've got good feedback on.

Thats amazing... I have never had a trans line pop off.. And all of mine are altered due to the Florida Heat.. And all of them are double clamped to be sure... Only problem I have is a failing trans...
Let us know what you find..

i had it towed home. i tried driving it home and only made it a few hundred feet before it wouldnt move again. it was acting like this before i had it rebuilt. should i take it to a good trans shop and rebuild it again? or save up money and buy an already built trans?

Why aren't you considering taking it back to AAMCO to have it fixed right?

its out of warranty and the aamco i had it rebuilt at is in arnold, mo, 45 miles from here. they are franchise locations, so the ones around here want nothing to do with it. its been a little over a year and it had a 12 month warranty.

That would have been good to know up front. Thanks for the clarification.

That really sucks and I don't know what to tell you at this point.. The most common failures for these was the 4th Hub and the EPC... Once rebuilt they should provide a good long life... If rebuilt properly..

I would find a supposedly good transmission in a junkyard with a warranty, and run it.

x2... I vote go used. I put a used tranny in my blue 2000 years ago, still firm and crist as ever, 60k miles later.
When it was rebuilt, do you know if they replaced the solenoids? Sounds like a PCS failure to me...
Also, there is NO reason that hose clamps should have been used. The lines have flared ends and use a quick connect spring clip. Not using the correct procedures should go back to Aamco, even if it is out of warranty.

I'll call them and ask about the solenoids and clamped on hose. I looked at just trading this car in, I was getting fed up with dealing with maintenance issues, but I've been late too much on my payments because of those issues. So, credit is too bad to move on, gotta save up money to have it fixed if I can't find a used one or get aamco to take it back(doubtful).

I was told that the 4t65e-hd's in grand prixs will not work and that I will have to find one from a 2000-2002 bonnie only. Is this true?

02 is specific to 02, so you need an 02 from a Bonneville SSEi. Might make the search pretty hard.
