Hello, I am going to post what it says to do for the repair on my alldata. Alldata is the repair software that most garages use along with mitchell on demand. These 2 different forms of software I have available to me and I can relay the information needed for your repair.
If you should need any pictures please let me know and I will find a way to get them off Alldata and posted on here for you. Good luck with your repair. I hope this post helps answer your questions

Disable airbag system

1. remove steering wheel as described in steering wheel.
2. using lock plate compressor tool No. J23653-c or equivalent, push down shaft lock and remove shaft lock retaining ring.
3. remove shaft lock, turn signal cancelling cam assembly, upper bearing spring, upper bearing inner race seat and inner race.
4. set turn signal to right turn position, then remove multi-function lever and hazard know assembly.
5. remove signal switch arm retaining screw and switch arm.
6. remove turn signal switch attaching screws, then signal switch as follows:
a. disconnect turn signal connector from bulkhead connector and wire harness strap
b. disconnect e and c module connector from signal switch harness
c. remove wiring protector, then nut holding ground wire to stud
d. gently pull wire harness through column
7. reverse procedure to install
8. rearm airbag system

Never, EVER work on the steering column without disconnecting the battery, thus disabling the airbag. And when you handle it, treat it like the explosive it is.

Its a huge pain to replace this lol, mine broke a few months back

First off make sure you disconnect the battery and follow the proper method of disabling the airbag, even though the battery is disconnected there is always a possibilty of a charge still.

Start off by taking pictures as you start tearing down the sterring wheel,

You will remove the airbag first by unscrewing 4 torx bit bolt
Take the airbag off and remember how all the wires were connected and how the horn was grounded out
You will then need the steering wheel puller
remove the wheel
now your down to the airbag coil, if this is not removed correctely your gonna have issues
after the coil is removed you will need another compressor to push down another pin, and remove an oring looking lock washer
after all this is removed your near the area were you need to be,
you will then need to remove 3 hex bolts, including the key lock
then after all of this is done you must disconnect the old harness and pull that wiring through the column
you then can intall the new arm and go from there,
follow the steps and reverse from there,

I bought a junkyard column to play with prior to repairing mine. I would suggest getting new lock washers to replace the damaged ones as they do bend an break really easily.

Take your time and take some pics, I do have a few pictures and videos i if needed

I got this kit at Harbor Freight (It's $19.95 now but was on sale for $12.95) and it met my needs quite adequately. Has parts for both U.S. and foreign cars.
