Help me diagnose!

I have an issue with my 02 Bonneville SSEi. I have searched everywhere and can't find any info.

I was on the highway about 80mph and all of a sudden, I lost all drive power and the RPM's just about redlined. All of my other power(steering, windows, radio, ect.) still worked just fine. Not knowing too much about cars, I was afraid I lost the transmission.
Before this problem I had a Service Stability System light on and the car would randomly (jump forward or jolt forward?) when I would let off the gas. I always thought it was the transmission going out.
It still starts but when I put it into any gear whether it is Drive, Reverse, 1, 2, 3, or Neutral. It doesn't move and all I can hear is ticking. When put back into park, it still ticks until I turn the car off and back on.

I have hooked up a scanner and couldn't find any codes. I think if it was the transmission I would be able to move in at least reverse or another one.

I bought the car from my dad (only owner) and has 190K on car. It was used for business and had all regular maintenance done.

:helpsmilie: Any help is much appreciated. :helpsmilie:

Did you check to see if perhaps you blew out a drive axle's CV joint?

Archon, sounds like the sound happens whether it's moving or not.

Hard to do remotely.
Get a professional diagnosis from the dealer and then let us help you fix it without the $100/hr charge.

Sounds like the tranny is out, but hard to tell from the description?

Yeah...it does. An experience I had with one where without the brake to stop the spinning, while trying to put the vehicle into park, the pawl never fully engages until the motor is shut off. "Easy stuff first". Although I agree that it sounds more like a transmission issue. Not everything will set a code.
