I am 90+% sure that my AC compressor has locked up. It smoked the AC clutch (smoke rolled out of it like a locomotive). I'm running with it unplugged right now.
Anyway, I'm considering a new replacement assy. from Rockauto.com; a 4-Seasons Premium #88967 (2-yr warranty & 10 cylinders).
Q: Just wondering if anybody has had any good/bad experience with this brand? (advertises to be built in Grape Vine, TX)
It seems like a good price at $210+. I am hiring the labor out on this one because of the freon issue and will switch to freeze-12; and be replacing the dryer and orifice. Thanks, Bill C.

Never heard of them, but a quick internet search finds several warehouses stock and sell those parts. I can't find who actually makes the parts though.

I actually have a 4Seasons in my car now...I have to say it pumps some mighty cold air...mechanic (where I used to work) highly recommended it...I got a bad one though...clutch sounds like a paint spray can being rattled around...free replacement!

Will you go with just the clutch? or the whole assy? I have to pay a shop to do all the tricks with handling the freon if it is an assembly replacement. They will only warranty if THEY provide the parts (at about double the cost for a reman.)

The entire unit gets replaced free of charge at my place, all work is warrantied along with parts. When I had this initially put in, it was many months ago...I hadn't even turned it on (kept a/c off on my ECC) because 1) It was winter 2) Airmix actuator was broken

When I turned it on about a month and a half ago, I had felt vibrations in the car when it got really hot (meaning it had been on a bit, sitting in traffic, hot out). This told me it wasn't a good unit, though, the air was cold as can be (colder than OEM). The entire unit will be swapped out this week, and system re-charged professionally. Nothing out of pocket.

The reason for the new A/C months ago was the OEM one blew apart, grinding and I just got it to my friends where we trailered it and brought it to the shop.
