Delayed Blower Motor Engagement

Last night I was on the way hoe from a friends house and noticed the blower didnt turn on. After 20 minutes of messing with the controls, I had given up, assuming the motor had gone out. Then in the same fashion as usual, it ramped up and gave my glorious warmth.

So what controls when the motor turns on? Why would it take such a long time.

Sounds more to me like the blower motor is failing...although a loose connection can cause this....next time you notice it NOT working, leave the controls on and tap the blower motor a few times to see if that makes it turn on. If it does, blower motor needs to be replaced...

The design is, IMO, bad. You can pull the motor, disasemble and clean it and it should work for quite awhile. I have pics of when I did this myself I just haven't posted them. (I'M LAZY). You would need to purchase electric motor cleaner in a spray can. I think there a written instructions on the site somewhere.

Do you have the auto climate controls on your SSEi? On my SSEi the blower doesn't come on until the engine temp is around 150* or so. Normally it hits that within a few minutes, but if your thermostat is stuck open it could take a long time to get there, especially if you live North of the Mason-Dixon. Keep an eye on the temp gauge next time you notice it happening.

I was watching the temp gauge eagerly awaiting the turn on point. I wouldnt think the motor is failing, either because it ramped up, just as normal. Is there a temp sensor that is specific to the climate controls that could be sending erronious readings to the CC computer?

Mine did that when it was failing. All of the sudden it would come on, esp. if I had just hit a bump. Once it gets going, it goes, but if it's worn out it can't get going, but once its going, it can keep itself going.
