Welcome everyone to the official thread for Ontario Bonneville Fest for 2008 to be held Saturday July 19th and Sunday July 20th, 2008.
Due to the sucess of last years meet and it's tight schedule we have added another day this year to further enjoy the festivities and participants! This years meet is being held in the quaint little town of Niagara-On-The-Lake, located about 10 minutes from the Canada/US Queenston/Lewiston boarder crossing. Camping and accomodations are available in both Niagara Falls and Welland, both of which are 10-15 minutes from the meet areas and in the heart of the tourist rich area of the Falls.
I will post all the details and itinerary for this year's meet as soon as they become available. For now I can tell you that if you enjoyed last year's meet, then you'll be blown away by what we'll have in store for this year. Of course it won't be a complete sucess without the people so I look forward to seeing all of you who can make it this year! Mark it on your calendar and start saving for it!
BTW One of the many door prizes I have collected so far is a Motorola Bluetooth handsfree with a retail value of $80! Just one of the many prizes that will be available this year!

You guys do an AWESOME job for these meets! For those in the US driving over, please be aware of the new requirements for border crossing... ummm.... shoot... what are they again?

If you don't have a passport or a nexus card, you will need your driver's license
and your birth certificate.
I totally recommend marking this date and trying to make it to at least one of the days. I am booked that weekend - both days (karaoke/dj/singing), however I will see if I can't fit it in!

Thanks for the compliments Tracy, but I have to admit it was the turnout and the great people that made the meet a great time for everyone last year! I hope you can squeeze it into your tight schedule.........
Plans are coming right along. The only glitch is that if racing is in anyone's mind for this event it would have to be Friday night from 7-11pm as the track has an all weekend event planned for our dates. So we could do Friday nite/Saturday instead this year. I'd like to know if anyone is interested in racing at Cayuga, (if not then I can plan another activity and stick to the Saturday/Sunday original schedule. What are your thoughts?

Have an address for me to plug into google maps?
This is realistic for me, especially if some MN/IL members convoy.

I'd like to get out that way again this year, but I'd rather car pool to save some green.
Kyle, basically the meet is at the northern border of ON and NY. Maybe a ~16(probably less depending on traffic and stops) hour drive from IL. I don't think it would be a problem to get some days off.

If you want I can PM you an address to my front door, from there its no more then 1hr to Niagara on the Lake, and maybe 2 hrs to Cayuga...if racing is what you wanna do.

What will the schedule be? 2 days seems pretty slim for driving that far. Nothing against the meet, but I'd like to take some extra time off and enjoy Canada. I've only been there once and wouldn't want to cut my 2nd visit short.

Mach has directions directly to my place, so there is an understading of travel time. If you are planning to stay for more then 3 days, we can figure out lodging needs.

For those who may attend from outside the province, I realize a 2 day event is not very much to make the drive/investment worthwhile. However the Niagara Peninsula has some of the worlds best tourist attractions and is only a 45 mins to a 1 hour drive to Toronto. Those who wanted to extend their stay to take in the sights could see Niagara Falls, the many wineries of the region, take in a MLB baseball game at the Roger's Centre (Bluejays vs whoever), CN Tower (one of the worlds tallest free-standing buildings), take in a show in the Toronto theatre district, visit 2 Vegas class Casinos in Niagara Falls, not to mention visit with a few of the Bonnie nuts in the area (me being just one of them!).
Border crossing requirements for US citizens crossing into Canada require proof of citizenship plus a government issue picture ID such as a driver's license. A passport is NOT required, but would make it easier for you to exit and return from your homeland!
Our dollar is pretty much at par with the US greenback these days so plan on getting about the same exchange as what you trade in (allthough exchange is not necessary as we all take the US dollar in Canada). If you do spend US money here most merchants will give you about 93 cents Canadian for your 1 US dollar.
Gas prices these days are about $1.35/litre or in your terms that equals about $5.06/gallon (for 87 octane). Don't ask what 93/94 goes for (that's the cost of having an SSEi I guess :sad5: )
Now hopefully I haven't scared off too many of my American friends! We'd love to have you join us in what will prove to be a memorable and fun day for all those involved!
I have some events in the planning stages but I can't commit them to the meet yet, but they will be pretty cool.....that's all I can say for now.......so keep tuned in here for more updates as they become available.

Brian has asked to help coordinate this event from a Pontiac Bonneville Club angle, so if anyone has questions or concerns they can be directed to me and I will help filter them through.

Will my password and social security card be enough?
Also, can I use my VISA at gas stations?

Keep your password to yourself. No one else should know it.
But your passport will be plenty sufficient for ID purposes. The folks at Foggy Bottom have this to say:

And last I remembered Visa was accepted at a lot of the gas stations.

LOL password. Indeed a passport is recommended to enter. Border crossing should be a non issue, and yes your VISA is acceptable here, if you want our currency, its basically par these days. 1 for 1 - some banking fees for currency changing.
