So I've noticed that my front driver side rim have been getting rather dusted by brake dust. Which is odd since I switched to full ceramic pads. Then with closer inspection the rotor is extremely hot compared to the rest. To where the rim is considerably warmer then the rest of them.

First I bled the line to check for air. Line was good.
Still hangs up.

Tried turning traction control off. Maybe thinking it was like the wheel speed sensor malfunctioning and the black was grabbing slighting to "slow" the tire down (this may have made no sense to some one that knows what they're doing)
Still hangs up

today I pulled the caliper off exercised the pistons, cleaned the pad knobs where they go into the slides, cleaned the slides. Everything seems to be moving smoothly.
(we'll see how it works on the drive to work in the morning)

Any other suggestions. Happen to any one else?


brake fluid level is good.
pads are warn evenly rotor looks fine. no extensive wear.
It's just hanging up enough to heat the rotor to a untouchable state.
it hasn't warped and there are no hot spots.
Car isn't pulling while driving or braking.
Gas mileage is suffering (not noticeably)

similar experience turned out to be the flexible brake line. line was either clogging from particles flaking off or line was allowing fluid to the caliper under the pressure of applying brakes but upon release fluid did not flow freely back toward the master cylinder.

I agree. The flexible hose is a good thing to check although they usually don't display this fault when only 5 years old. This is a tricky flaw. The hose can appear to be fine externally, but the rubber lining inside the hose de-laminates and the flap of material prevents the complete release of pressure when you remove your foot from the brake. Kinda' acts like a check valve.

So whats the best way of going about checking this line? taking it off completely I'm guessing? By doing this i then have to go all the way around the car and bleed all the lines don't I?

And even with what I did yesterday It still drags. So I guess this will be my next attempt.

Yeah, you will need to bleed the brakes after you change the hoses. I don't think there is an easy way to determine if the hose is bad without removing it. Might as well just change it out. You may get away with just bleeding the front, but what the heck, bleeding them all will flush the old fluid out of the lines - should be periodic maintenance anyway.

So I go to get a new brake line today. Only to find out it's dealer exclusive? Are you kidding me?

Well I replaced the line finally. Greased the slide pins. and still hanging up. Son of a bitch. Gonna have to take it in for a pressure release test.

I had the same issue. In my case - turns out the slide pin(s) with the rubber O-ring around it were too tight. The O-ring expanded over time ever so slightly and was not sliding very good. Do not spray brake cleaner on the rubber O-ring. I think that may have been what did it in. Anyhow, replaced the O-rings and the calipers slide properly once again! Pads are wearing much better and dust storm is over.
