set up was nice and loud and crystal clear but ........

so new set up is:
jl audio 6.5 xr coaxils in front doors
jl audio xr tweeter in door
jl audio 6x9 xr in rear deck lid
jl audio 12w7's...x2
jl audio 450/4
jl audio 1000/1...x2
alpine cd changer
alpine head unit
alpine bluetooth
alpine muti source unit so can also have ipod

so here is the door set up. made jl grill and badge fit in stock location.

Cool setup man. What are the specs on the box? Also, do you just have the components mounted to the front side of the door? Did you do anything behind them? I have my Alpine Type X components that way and I feel like the midbass is lacking up until the point that they bottom out. I was considering doing some kind of sealed fiberglass pod behind the speaker, but I dunno...

yeah i love jl stuff... sounds great!!! for doors i opened up the door panel so speaker is front mounted. then fiberglassed a wood ring behind the door panel so the speaker is solid mounted. the door is damped with dyno mat extreme. first set up i had made a wood bafle so speaker was mounted to the door. sounded good but theis setup is WAY better. how do you have ypurs crossed over. i running 150 watts to each door and it will run you out of the car. car is set up for sq and i have great highs, mids and enuff lows to win spl contest if set to do so lol. bullet for my valentine never sounded so good lol. sub enclosures are slot ported and made to jl spec for the 12w7's.... took many trys to get them spot on and have correct port and fit in the trunk. then had to redo them agian so cud get them in the car lol... basicly had to build half the boxes in the trunk....labor of love for sure!!!

Do those subs fire straight up into the trunk lid?
Door speakers look really nice.
Out of curiosity, why is the front panel of the sub box clear? Is there something to look at in there?

do the top is at an angle but yes they fire up. clear plex if for showing off the sweet 12w7'. hard to see in pics but there is neons in the enclsure to light them up.

What is the fiberglass mold in the wheel well for?
The lights in the sub. . .can you see them when you drive?

My comps are the Alpine SPX-17ref. I had the comp. woofers mounted in the stock location (from behind) but I didn't like it. Now I've got it mounted like yours I guess (took the factory grill off, front/surface mounted the woofer, and put the factory grill back on). Didn't put an mdf or glass behind it but I did deaden the panel quite a bit. I'm using the passive crossovers that came with the comps and am still playing with the crossover on the HU (usually at 80hz, or 100hz when I get excessive excursion). I'm running the set with a Hifonics TXi-4008 (rated at 100w x 2 but probably does more like 80w x 2, which is what my comps are rated at IIRC).

Before I opened the door panel up, I was hoping to mount the woofers to the metal frame with some mdf rings and some non-hardening clay to get a nice, solid mount. Maybe seal the door up. But after I saw how the inside of the Bonnie door was that was basically a no-go. Maybe I'll try to get some rings and glass behind the woofer and get some weight on the panel to see if it makes the woofer shine a little better. Sometimes I just feel like I'm not getting that midbass punch I should be from my comps.

I need to work on my sub setup as well. I'm running a single 12 which pounds on some songs, but leaves me wanting more on alot of stuff. I got a 12" Fi SSD in a sealed box running off of a Sundown SAE1200D (capable of 1500+ watts). I think I'm gonna rip out my rear 6x9s (not using rear fill anyway) and try porting through the rear deck or something. We'll see how it goes.

Looks like maybe he glassed a false floor to cover the spare. And I doubt he can see the lights when he drives...

I like boxes that use plexi. It's cool when you can look in and see the basket and motor on a sexy sub.

had to fiberglass the tire well for the bottom of the box. to get two diff ported enclosures and to be deep enuff for the subs to fit and trunk to close it was only option. i had built a box for between the strut towers but it so big that it basicaly plugged up the whole passage into the car. so sounded great when the trunk was open ....but close the trunk and all the sound was separated by the box....
as for seeing the lights in the box..um no.... cant see anything in the trunk til you open it lol

How did you scure the front speakers grills in and the tweeters? I had a shop do my system and they did horrible! I'm hoping that sometime this year I can redo the way they set everything up to make it look clean and a professionl look.

the tweeter grills are stock..painted black with jl badges....then the tweeters are secured with hot melt glue. that way with some work they could be removed if so choose to return to stock at sell time or upgrade.

Respect! You did a nice job on that one. How many "real" hours of work did you put in on the install?

Did you have to do some trimming on the door panel for the front speakers?  I have 6.5's in my front and the place that did them didn't really do the greatest job with putting them in and used pretty big screws on them to hold them on the panel. Then the grills can't even stay on that came with the speakers.
