Rear ELC Trick

Can anyone repost this?
I would love to try and figure this out for the 99.
Maybe create some switch inside the cabin I can flip at the starting line making the rear raise up to a set level.
Wouldn't that just scare the crap out of your opponent?
"Hey, his rear end is lifting up! What the...." :eek2:

I have a schematic on how to put a switch in the cabin with 3 wires to not only elc trick, but turn on pump and hold. It disables the purge so the strut stays inflated. Once I get it ready, I will post.

Do you have that schematic posted somewhere?

I'd like to see that schematic also

here is a quick diagram. The DPDT (center off) switch is shown in center position. Throwing the switch "up" connects the yellow wire to ground, which turns on the pump. After the struts are fully extended, moving the switch to the center/off position removes the ground from the yellow wire stopping the pump. This is called the "hold" postion. Throwing the switch "down" connects the white wire, which is the purge line. This would be called "normal" position as the purge and inflate functions are intact.

so will the purge position allow the load leveling system to function normally..?

yes, that is why it would be called "normal" mode. That is the position it would be normally driven in. You would put the switch in the "up" position to raise the rear, then in the center position to hold, and down for normal.

You only need 3 wires run from the elc switch to where ever you mount this switch. I put in in the arm rest. Just make sure the 2 white wires you run are at least as big as the white wires on the compressor (18 ga.). The yellow wire is just a relay ground line, 22 - 24 ga. should be fine.

I'm not clear on what kind of switch that is and which wires to connect the two white and one yellow wire.
So the wires are connected to the level switch that controls the ride height, right?

Paul , this only works through 99. I haven't looked at the 2k+

It is a double pole double throw center off switch

Travis: Where did you get that switch? Is the ELC control under the seat?

cant remember, radio junk has them I know. just do a google for "dpdt center off" or "dpdt off-on-off". It isn't some exotic switch, pretty normal. They are used alot for motor reversal switches.

OK. Is the ELC control under the seat?

sorry, the elc switch is on the right rear wheel control arm, by the compressor. The wires you attach to are right there.

How long does this take to pump up when switched?
How long does this take to come back down to normal driving levels?

depends

up could take you 30 secs, down about 10.

My method with no added circuit:

1. Open trunk and disconnect the two-wire connector from the ELC/inflator selector valve (located behind the rear seat near the right rear strut tower).

2. Press ON for the inflator.

3. Watch the rear end come up a the air is now diverted from the inflator to the struts.

4. When up all the way, pull the ELC fuse to prevent it from venting.

5. Go racing.

6. When done, put the fuse back and re-connect the valve.

on mine, it is in the engine bay, maxifuse center. not sure on yours. Your elc trick is way different than ours Paul.
