Question on pulling the engine

Getting ready to pull the L67 engine on the '00.
The FSM says to remove the harmonic balancer.
Is this really necessary? It looks like there is enough clearance to do with out removing it.
Also, do you need to remove lines from PS pump?

You don't need to pull the HB.
Just remove the pump from the engine (2 bolts accessible through the pulley) and move it to the side while you pull the engine out. Same with the AC compressor.

Ditto. No need. Are you pulling just the engine or the trans too? I'm doing this again in two weeks. Can't wait

Great!
Thanks for the help.
I am pulling engine only so I can fix the dreaded gasket leak on the crankshaft rear oil housing (cover that holds the rear main seal).

There is a tricky bolt on the back side that is only accessable with a really long extension or two between the tranny housing and the engine block. Also have to remove the bracket that is on the rear passanger side between the diff housing and the engine block. Those are the two tricky ones when leaving the tranny in. The rest isn't too bad.

This was one of the easiest removal and installs i've ever done. No need to remove balancer, and yes the one trans bolt is little bit of a bear but a little patience and persistance is key.
