Evap Vent Solenoid Error Code P0449

my 2000 sle is throwing this code here recently.
to explain my situation, we have had alot of rain here lately, and my wife has been driving bonnie since she wrecked her car week ago or so...well, there is a area on our road with standing water from rain flooding, it was deeper then she realized...and it got some water into the intake track. i replaced the air filter since it was damp and cleaned up the TB and MAF and IAC...the ribs of the air intake bellow had small amount of water in them...so she sucked up some water....
anyway, did all this and drained oil to be safe and replaced. did pull 1/3/5 spark plugs and no signs of water in cylinders...so i think it didn't get to far.
well, after all this...car ran great then it threw the SES light other night....seems to be running fine still...but it throws the P0449 code. i climbed under and took the rear vent valve out and checked it for dirt or anything..looked fine...cleaned it and put back in..threw light again today. could this code point to the solenoid under the hood as well??
either are fairly inexpensive...but would like to narrow it down....

I'd bet that the valve got wet and short circuited.

When that code appears, it indicates a problem in the electrical circuit for the valve, or the valve itself. If there is no damage to the wiring, and the connector is good, the problem is likely the vent valve. The cannister purge valve under the hood will throw a different code.

thanks for the quick replies, i will get the valve under the rear of the car then.. it only threw this code after the water issue, so i was thinking it would be the rear under the car just due to being under water most likely.

Check and make sure the gas cap is sealing, and make sure there's no rust. If there is, clean it off, and clear the code again.

i can check, but this still all stems from when the wife got the car a bit wet driving.........

Did you clear the code after putting on the valve? Check all along the wiring harness leading to the valve to see if you can find any damage or bad connections. When you worked in the air box, did you disconnect any of the connectors to the PCM?

Yes, i have cleared the codes a few times now with my scanner to be sure. It didn't come on this morning when i drove to work..but it usually comes back on at some point.
i did have the air box apart and had the pcm moved out of my way while putting it back together, maybe i caught a wire or something, i will check that next.
Is there anything else in this circuit for the code that would need to be replaced?
Thanks

That code shows an electrical problem, rather than a vacuum problem, so there isn't a lot to it. Does your scanner have the ability to activate that valve? If so, you could check for voltages with a test lamp. I'll have to check to tell you which connection to check on the PCM which could save you some time.

Sorry, no it does not. Just your basic OBD-II scanner for checking/clearing codes.
Any help is appreciated!

Pin #2 on the white connector of the PCM is for the cannister vent valve. I'll send you a diagram via PM.

Still no go. i was getting the tried and true "check gas cap" message couple days ago too.....cleaned up the gas fill neck and hadnt seen that message back yet...but SES light is on again with same P0449 code. guess my next thing is take to dealer to let them cycle the new solenoid...maybe i got a bad one...

i still don't have this resolved.
since all this, i have bought a new purge valve for up front on the motor and a new gas cap as well as cleaned the filler neck of anything possible being on it.
car still throws the PO449 code and comes up with "check gas cap" message.
i am hoping i just got a bad vent valve when i put the new one on.... i ordered another one from dealer...should have tomorrow.
also, i did check the pcm connections. i didn't snag anything on it. so, i don't see that being the problem.
what can i check for at the connector out back to the vent valve? voltage and when does it get applied to this circuit?
i got this car sold and i really want it fixed before it goes...any help appreciated.

last night was taking volt readings from the connector to the vent valve and while rotating the connector, the white wire broke loose of the connector..... not enough wire to resplace/solder. looks like the connection through that wire may have been comprimesed not allowing a ground for the valve. ordered a new connector...we will see if this fixes it!
