CTS-V brake upgrade: 60-0 video page 3

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Lowering would help that... Also, more braking power in the rear means less dive, not just more absolute stopping power.

Ryan, its not just about what can physically stop the wheels turning the quickest. Drum brakes are actually better at that. Huge brakes are easier to modulate and are more recoverable from a loss of traction, in addition to the previously mentioned fade resistance.

That makes sense. Either way though, those brakes look sweet!

It's the repeated hard stops they can take, and the overall feedback to your the driver as you work them. Yes, I'm sure there is an emperical data improvement too. I can't say as I never converted the GXP I had to something like this, so their is no scientific actual credence to back it up, but I can tell you, after having the "V", these brakes give you a lot more confidence in ALL situations. It's almost like having more horsepower/torque. You know what you can do from an acceleration standpoint, and or pointing and shooting in expressway traffic. These brakes give you that same level of confidence on the stopping side. It allows you to push the car into things deeper, harder, and being able to rely on their much greater level of power, precision and feedback without ANY fade or feeling like you've just chewed through a brand new rotor trying to perform some herculean example of driving. I know I drive the Caddy a lot harder because I have confidence not only in the onslaught of power I have, but the matching braking power to scrub it where need be. I miss this drivin the Suburban. I can thread needles with the "V" because of this all around track prowess it has that mere mortal vehicles do not!

This setup is also like a drag racer and his ford 9" rear end at the drag strip. Between runs, if he wants a taller gear, he can simply go back to the pits between runs, 15 - 20 minutes later, have a completely different gear in the back, and go back out.

Same with this setup. You can swap out pad compounds in minutes without even removing the caliper. Simply remove the retaining spring/silencer, then tap out the retaining pins.

^^^ yup. Any car can lock it's brakes up at pretty my any speed for a couple of hard stops. The real improvement is for repeated hard braking events, that build up heat in the entire system.

F body, Vette, and V setups all have many more compounds available, larger rotor sizes, and multiple pistons giving better feel and power.

Every single part of the system is important. Every part can affect things like feel, power, responsiveness, hear dissipation, etc. what does everyone forget about? Tires. They are the only grip you have for the brakes to pull against.
