Looks good Bill!! Hope the Zilla stands a chance vs. the S2's this year!

Zilla has been running quicker than the majority of S2 L67 Bonnevilles at WCBF the last three years, and will again assuming there wasn't more severe damage than I saw in there. I'm also proud to say that I've helped/worked on those that beat me.

The performance of the LSD will determine if I run with the intercooler or not this year. I removed it before WCBF last year.

For those that missed it, there's a whole new batch of pics on the bottom of the previous page.

Bill, how easy is it to replace the dog bone mount without disassembling the axle shaft?
That is the only thing I can figure is still making the 94's groaning noise. Resolving that is my #1 priority even if it means tearing out the diff!

Paul, the dogbone is a 5-minute job that can be done with nothing more than a pair of pliers if that's all you have. The bracket doesn't have to come off the tailshaft housing or frame. Just replace the dogbone between them. But I have a hard time believing that mount could cause any noise or trouble. The dogbone on the 87-99 does next to nothing for the car. The only time it would be under stress is during hard accelleration.

That's not a real good comparison since they are totally different beasts. The Zilla is just impressive. Anyone can buy a bunch of crap and bolt it on an S2. S1 has to engineer everything just to make it a little faster.

Looking good. That thing should hold up just fine with the IC in there too I would think.

Judging by the condition of the second Diff when it came out, it's a darn good thing I ran with no intercooler last year. I would have hit 13's, but I'd bet I would have never driven it back from the track. The question now is how deep the damage went. I won't know until tonight or tommorrow night at the earliest. I had to replace one gear, thankfully I had a spare. The pin shards didn't do me any favors on that end of the trans.

Thanks for the props, Jared, it's fun to be neck and neck at the 1/8 with the ones that beat me. Same goes to you on the IC fab. Not to mention the swap.

Tonight after work I got the underdrive WP pulley off and a stocker back on, this required removal of the torque-axis mount, which required removal of my extra idler (Zilla runs one more idler than stock cars due to the itty-bitty supercharger pulleys, and the stock WP pulley will provide better flow with the IC front core installed), Brackets and mounts are (to the block and dogbone) done, right side axle installed, hub installed, and the lower strut bolts in but loose.

Tomorrow, I'll align the strut to my marks, install the rotor and caliper on that side, both front wheels, fill it with trans juice, and fire it up. Dead or not, it rolls out tomorrow to make room for the mini-meet this weekend.

The good news is that while rotating the whole shebang in neutral to get my hub bolts in, it felt pretty good.

Tomorrow will tell. Too late to finish anything else tonight.

Freaky. Got the LF tire on, and went back to the RF and turned the lug studs. RF wheel turned the same direction.

Align the strut to my marks, tighten the bolts, and get that tire Katie put in the trunk......I might need a couple more quarts of fruit juice, and in spite of her jealosy, the SLEeper's willing to make the run for it.

30 minutes, maybe a bit more to get stuff out of the way to roll it out.

thats the first good sign! Tires turning in the same direction off the ground. What I did was have someone on the other side to see if they could force it to turn the opposite direction, you can kinda figure out how many ft.lbs of torque bias that diff is good for. I think my Intense LSD was only about 50 or so..pretty light duty.

This one is probably a wee bit stronger preload than that, Matt. He doesn't build 'street' tuned anymore, just strip tuned. We'll have to check it next time you're here. We'll use a torque wrench on the axle nut to get a proper reading.

Ignore the pronounced noise.....my camera picks up all sorts of odd noises and amplifies them. It really isn't as bad as it sounds in the vid!

Off to get another quart of trans fluid.

EDIT: Holy cow, that trans pan drop and filter change cost me 8.5 quarts. I'm betting my monster trans cooler leaked down a bit over the last week. Topped off, purring like a kitten, going for a drive. Be back in an hour or two with a road report, but taking it easy for the break in time on the clutches and such in the LSD.

You sneaky little bastard. I didn't even see you.

All gears are good, other than overdrive, which never locked up. After checking the FSM, I found that it states something odd about OD lockup being prevented at 100% throttle? What a stupid PCM trick. I never would have imagined.

Seriously, time will tell. Zilla is the commuter for the rest of the week to see how things hash out. Steering force required in normal turns or curves is 10-20% increased with the LSD. But break in time is still required, so I'm taking it somewhat easy for now. Engine-wise, she's purring like a kitten, but still a little on the fat side in terms of AFR (still in track tune from WCBF last July). The big concern is how bad and how deep the damage from the second Diff went. There's no way to know without some miles under it.

Sounds good Bill. Looks like you gotter dun in time for the Mini Meet. :beerchug:

I remember three years ago when my EP Lsd was new. Both tires used to turn in the same direction. Now they turn counter. That could have a lot to do with my dog leg burns.
It's probably time to pull it out again and replace the discs. :???:
