With aluminum I know there is supposed to be a special zinc chromate primer that etches. You see it on aircraft all the time. When I have the bodywork done on the SSEi, I'll request the hood be done with that, then a few coats of sealer before the base.

Replaced both front wheel bearings this morning, got rid of all the growling.

Started on the interior this afternoon. Gross.




Carpet is currently drying.


The hood is done, but both and Mel and I aren't impressed with the color match. It's not bad straight on...


But at an angle its almost copper colored instead of gold. We MIGHT be redoing it.


Here are some pics of my attempt of removing the dent. I know its not even close to perfect, but its definately better.

I would probably just leave the damage like that. You could swap a panel over to it but not sure if your paint guy does that and how much it would cost, my guess is not worth it.

It does for sure look better though. What did you use?

A 2x4 and a 3lb sledge.

Right on par with my tools I used to work the dent on my 02 SLE... block of wood and a couple hammers

Nowhere near perfect, but much better, looks like you feel the same way about yours too. I am sorta pissed though, I ordered the body hammers and dollies last Thursday, called today to see wtf is going on as the money hasn't even been taken from my account yet. Turns out they are on backorder and it will take another two weeks or so for them to get here.... I was pissed!

The only time I've seen that color in person is having owned it. I've never seen a 2000+ one even though I know they came in that color combo.

You've done worlds on that car already! Its really amazing what a clean interior can do for a car's image. That front bumper looks a little faded...would it be in the budget to paint that front bumper as well? It'd sure make it match the hood better.

Polish the headlights up and see if that makes any difference in the appearance of the paint on the hood.

Ah, that reminds me. Do you know if the windshield trim is still available, or if the windshield company uses aftermarket trim? I took mine off to clean all the mud under it and it broke

When I had one put in my blue SSEi, I requested the OEM trim and received it. I don't care what they use with these project cars, so it will be a surprise.

The trim is the weatherstrip, it's just a hard outer layer. There is no "trim" like the older cars had.

The interior looks truly amazing now. And you didn't do half bad of job with the rear quarter either.

For the windshield, do you spend the extra $100 or so for the heads up windshield? I'm not sure what the difference is between it and the standard.
