Sounds like a loose rear tranny dogbone, and likely a torn up front tranny mount.

I just read the entire thread, in one of your posts on July 2nd you stated the idle improved with the FPR vacuum line disconnected. Is that still the case?

the idle actuall only changes until i plug the vac line then it runs the same after it stabilizes.(no change) unplug egr(no change). the trans dog bone is oil soaked and deterierating, the front mount looks alright but separates alot under load but ill put a bolt through that and replace the rear. im going to change the egr again that might help a little but the mounts need to be fixed. still doesn't guarentee a fix for the surging but the vibration should be lessened or eliminated.
If it were quick and easy everyone would be doing it!

The EGR isn't active at idle other than a one-time self-test. Unless your EGR line is cracked or the clamp is leaking AFTER the valve and BEFORE the LIM.

Remove the oil filler tube from the valve cover.
Does the idle improve?
Is there a vacuum if you cover the opening with the palm of your hand?
