Get the 100W Sylvania or GE OEM bulbs. They're just as white and bright. That's what I run.

Nope.

I just replaced the passenger side after about 3 months, about a week ago. I even think that bulb may have been used slightly before hand from my old fog light assembly. I swapped out the 55w bulb in the new assembly with the 100w from the old one, when I put the new assembly in.

HID's for the fog lights?

Yep, they make H3 true HIDs. I tried a setup from Ebay some time ago and they worked great initially, but then one ballast apparently went bad, and the other side lost a bulb when driving in the rain. So I'm done with that although I think others have had good luck.

CM - I dropped in a pair of 100Ws and love them. With the fogs properly aimed, my visibility is much improved to the left and right. When I turn onto my alley from a 2-lane road its hard to see the alley until you make the turn. MUCH better with the 100Ws. I never did this previously because I was worried they'd burn out even quicker, but I'm hooked now.

When I put the 100s in, I left the headlamps out initially, and turned on the fogs for 15 minutes. I felt the wires by the connectors and opened the loom to check further down and the wires did not get warm, so I don't think there is any strain on the harness.

I thought this was a pretty harsh indictment until I saw the set-up. I swapped the burned out passenger side and the still functioning driver's side bulbs out for the 100W Sylvanias. Anxious to see them at night. It is certainly a piss-poor design. Combining the inaccessability with the H3 bulb was not the best plan... Thanks for the info and pictures tho, Pontiac Bonneville Club made things much easier once again.

Glad you guys like them.

Yea, maybe I was a little harsh, I just couldn't get over the lame brained design when my first set went out. :D I realize the goal with the H3's was a much brighter light than a conventional 880 or 893 style fog light bulb, but at least make them easy to replace if they're gonna go out every other week. :)

2.3 Turbocoupe, interesting on the HID's for the fogs? It may be an interesting thought. I wonder if ballast location might have been an issue!?

Sweet...... Im going to pick up a set tomorrow and put them in after work!! my pass side been out for a month now and it's been replaced 3 times within the 3 1/2 months i have owned the car!! Oh well looks like the 100W blub will do the trick!!

Did you or CM leave the back for the fogs unscrewed and off to help with the release of the heat from the bulb? Thanks guys!!

I haven't touched the fogs on dad's GXP, that's the saddest part. He doesn't care that much, lol.

CMNTMXR57 wrote:FYI, our fog lights do not like Silverstar H3's. Seriously! I went through them on a weekly basis. Went back to a regular Sylvania, Wagner, or whatever bulb, in 100W rating, and they last a couple months (with the moisture caps off). Put a Silverstar back in (just to see), and they last a week. I don't get it.
the second biggest culprit here is the silverstar bulbs. obviously you've switched now, but fwiw silverstar bulbs are synonymous with having a much shorter lifetime than your standard bulb.

I just changed my bulbs again Thursday and this time I left the caps off. I also just ordered the HID kit and am going to put them in hopefully next weekend if they come in this week. At this point I am willing to take a shot at it for the $55 the whole set up cost me on ebay. Pics and results will follow.

I'm definetely waiting to see these HID's!!

Are they a completely different light housing? Or does this bulb fit into the GXP housing?

They say that they are direct plug in to the existing harness and housing. They come with all the connections, ballast and bulbs. I figured that for $55 it's worth the try since I have sent more than that on bulbs since I bought the car 2.5 years ago.
