Misfires still present. Not as frequent, though acceleration seems a bit smoother with the new wires.

Here's my morning scan. I'm baffled as to why I'm getting misfires. Plugs are new, wires are new, ICM/coils were adjusted. The only thing left is to look at the timing.

Not sure if you did this yet, but did you test the primaries and secondaries on all the coils? Just make sure all their resistances are close to each other and within the recommended range. Techinfo has the specifics.

So last night I drove into the city to see a concert. I wasn't scanning, however, I had my scan gauge on and noticed I had misfires going on at random times. Nothing was repeatable. Most were at idle, some were right when I began to add throttle. Didn't happen all the time either. Maybe every 2 or 3 minutes. I later noticed that while in traffic, my battery voltage slowly dropped down to 10.9 (normally sits at 13.8-14.0). I had the head lights, fog lights, heater, radio and one sub amp on at the time. I started turning things on and off to see if voltage changed and I only say .1v change. EDIT: Once RPMs were up and I was rolling, the voltage increased back up to 13.8.

Late last night, I was leaving the bar we went to for a night cap and right after I started my car, my DIC said one of my tail lights was out. Not wanting to get pulled over at 1 am, I got out to see and all lights were working. I turned off the car and restarted, then had my passenger go out and check to see if my brake lights all worked. They did and as soon as they got out to check them, the light sensor went off. BIZARRE!

Suggestions?

Check the ground wire from the battery where it attaches to the engine.

Cheers,

Checked the ground to the engine. That sucker is in a tight spot right underneath the engine above the sub frame. Very tough to get to. It was covered in soot so I cleaned it up as much as I could. Here's the pic. I put a 13mm wrench on it and tried to tighten, but it was on tight enough (could not turn it). Still random misfires going on. What now brown cow?

Something I did for good measure was sanding down the area where the battery bolts to the body, but my battery is in the back seat so that doesn't help much. :???:

Have you cleaned the injectors? I'm hitting a wall with my KR issue as well and I'm toying with the idea that I need to soak my injectors in gas and replace the o-rings.

I replaced the o-rings on the injectors and ran 3M Complete Fuel System cleaner on 1/2 tank of gas back in August.

Think I might've found something of interest....
I was comparing (1) my current bin to the (2) Intense bin, to the (3) factory 99 ssei bin, to the (4) 99 GTP bin and found an area that really stood out. The MAF Allowed Delta airflow was significantly different from the GTP to the SSEi. In HPT, "MAF Allowed Delta Airflow: These tables determine the maximum positive and negative airflow (g/sec) change allowed every 12.5ms.

INTENSE & STOCK BIN

GTP STOCK BIN

As a test, I've copied over the GTP figures to my bin and will see if that yields any results.
Does anyone know what happens when the airflow exceeds these figures? Will that retard the timing?

Last change yielded no noticeable results.
I was going through older scans and I'm still baffled why I'm commanding 11* and only seeing 7 or 6* with 1*KR yet when I was doing my VE tune, I was seeing 14* with 3-4 KR. (image below is from page 8 of this thread).
At the time, I was commanding 13* of timing in the .92 / 3600 cell.
What happened? :helpsmilie:

In this other thread:
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =12&t=6603

You say you swapped in a new high-flow fuel pump recently. Maybe I missed it in the current 17-page thread, but when exactly was this done? Are the scans in the current thread before or after the pump change?

I ask because my recent fuel pump change (to same TRE-340 pump) eliminated all part-throttle (and most WOT) KR on my 1998 LeSabre. Seems my old, worn pump would falter a bit whenever fuel demand spiked, causing momentary leanness and KR.

TRE-340 pump was installed 8/22/2008.
HPT arrived 8/26/2008

EDIT: Replacing the FPR today just to eliminate that from the equation.
EDIT2: Bought FPR and tried to put it in, however, the one I got was smaller. I took it back and AutoZone listed that same one for all the models above, below and even for the GTP. I went over to Advance and they too had a smaller one. What's up with that? I"m afraid to order from RockAuto for fear of getting the same *dang* one. Anyone have a similar issue with the FPR?

RockAuto has about 3 different FPR listed for my Bonnie. One was a whooping $80! But I assume that's the best one.

Great, I have 4 to choose from! The ones at RockAuto are more expensive than AutoZone and Advance (listed below from lowest to highest price).
Which one is the factory, OEM one? I'm guessing it's the last AC Delco one (also most expensive).

That looks like the same parts I come up with. I have no idea why the bottom one is so much more expensive. The description doesn't help either, but personally I'd buy that one because you get what you pay for.

Oh btw, I only hit 11 degrees of timing in those 0.92 cells (when I have 0KR). Just some reference for you.

What are you commanding (High Oct. Spark Table)? I'm commanding 11 and only getting 6.

Currently using the Intense table:

13.01099 - 2800rpm
12.00000 - 3200rpm
12.00000 - 3600rpm
12.00000 - 4000rpm
10.98901 - 4400rpm
10.00000 - 4800rpm
10.00000 - 5200rpm
10.00000 - 5600rpm
10.00000 - 6000rpm
10.00000 - 6400rpm

Called Pontiac dealership and the FPR # for my car is 24506988. They have them for $150, rockauto $72.

$80!? I don't think my AC Delco FPR was that much. It's been awhile though so it's totally possible. I just changed mine for good measure and have a fine stock one here. If either of you want to borrow it to see if that's your problem feel free.

Too late, already on order from RockAuto. Plus, I'd rather have new parts. Thanks for the offer though! I think my problem might be related to the missing damper issue in my other thread above (really hoping Boostie has a spare rail to send me) :hail:

Why do you need a spare fuel rail?
