K&N has a reputation for performance. Their filter is widely regarded as the benchmark all other filters are compared to.

They do not hold water.

Spectre filters hold water for quite some time. That means they flow less per given surface area. And most are smaller to begin with than what most of us use. Not only that, but with the tighter 'weave', the plug up sooner and flow even less in a shorter period of time.

well, i ordered a new K&N filter, but im keeping the stock piece because i realized, that the adapter i made out of a piece of smooth plastic tubing, fits the entire inside of the "accordion" :beerchug:

Mike, plastic is a very poor choice for intake materials. After all the work you've done, you could have just installed a real FWI from INTENSE.

Plastic heatsoaks easily, especially right above the crossover as yours is. Different plastics also vary greatly in their melt point or SOFTENING point, which is typically far lower than the meltpoint. That being the case, right above your crossover, I gaurantee during the summer, that piece of plastic will be exposed to brutal temperatures in excess of 200 degrees, especially when stopped at a light or in traffic.

If it's installed like I think it is, it'll collapse and allow unfiltered air to leak in. HOT unfiltered air.

*idk what the @$%# a chimney ballast tube is either :P
i got it from ace hardware, and it says its used in extreme temp. :bwoohoo:

guess i should've mentioned what kind of plastic it was

That doesn't get around the fact that plastic absorbs heat easily.

Mike, Get some aluminum tubing in there instead.

I just got a fwi from JMB. Came with a K&N. Very happy with it so far.
Kinda upset it didn't come with a pcm holder like Intense though...

No, during a massive forum move. ;) People are still settling in, and there's a ton of work still going on behind the scenes.

Start a new topic on the brakes. If you want OEM, put it in the 00-05 section. If you're looking for a bit more, post a new topic here.

We'll keep 'em split that way. So people can search on the two topics later. ;)

all fixed!

replaced the generic POS filter with a K&N
Part # RE-0950

and the plastic piece is now a piece of 3.875 outside diameter aluminum tubing ;)
custom milled to meet my specifications by a good buddy :)
it fits perfectly inside the "accordion" so its a smooth ride through the whole intake :beerchug:
