I would just tell your buddy to put 5/30 in it. Why not use the walmart brand also. After all, the supercharger turns the same speed as the engine right, cause it is hooked to the belt?

I would suggest that he uses 5/30 in his turbo as well, after all, it uses exhaust from the same engine using the oil, why is it not good enough?

I hope I never buy a car your buddy owned.

:)

If you ask any GM parts counter, they will have it, or can get it in a couple hours.

Maybe one day I will change the oil in the supercharger on the '03.... Over 250,000 miles and it is likely on the original oil :-#

Then why pulley down? :booty2: :poke:

Pulleys work the same way as gears, except they use a belt to connect them instead of teeth. Ratio between pulley size determines the rpm. The M90 is rated for 12k rpm max continuous operation.

There should be a difference noted here. Turbos usually feed off of engine oil. The superchargers in our application do not, so any oil you stick in there will be in there until you take it out.

I don't know how long synthetic 5w-30 will last in a supercharger, which is the big concern.

Haha I think he was being sarcastic.

He has an early 80's dodge truck... his response was "I will put whatever I want in my vehicles because I'm not getting screwed by a parts store" So I told him to run diesel in it. No smart-ass response to that. I'd rather buy the right oil and be out $20, than take a cheap route and have to rebuild for $700+ down the road. Thanks for all the responses, guys!

Every place I call just instantly says they don't have it, too. Except the weird thing is when I ask for SC oil they ask for the year of my car.. (97) and then they say no... do they not know that the 3800 L67's all have the same sueprcharger and take the same oil?? *dang* my car isn't THAT old lol.....

You are calling GM dealerships right? I have yet to go to any of the ones near me and them not have it in stock.

And no the year doesn't matter. Even the series one L67s use the same oil. Even other boosted cars use the same oil.

Yep. plus every other dealership anywhere near me. But I'm going to wait to change it til I get a new coupler. And yea I figured that haha. So I don't get why they don't stock it.

GM is now rarely carrying this. Both ones in my town have to order it by 24 unit case, so they are just not stocking it. I am sure I can find it in the GTA, but I may have to call first now.

I used Mobil1 5w30 synthetic this time with a new ZZ coupler this week, and I will change it in a month or so. Mine turns pretty fast with the 3.2 on it, so I will see how bad it deteriorates.

That'd be cool to see what happens. you'll have to let me know. I do know I have to change the coupler soon, though. It's just starting to make the rattling sound. So I think I'll order both. It'd be interesting to see how that oil hold up, though
