I've filled up about 3 times now just after the light has come on. I think I put in between 14 and 14.75 gallons. I always thought the light/warning came on at 2gal.

Also, my DIC has been extremely accurate. It's usually not off by more than .4gal used. The only time it was off more than that was my recent all highway trip which it was off .6 or .7gal.

IMHO, .4 gallon is the difference between making it and not making it to the gas station, lol. At around 20 MPG, it's .8 MPG difference between indicated and actual. That's not insignificant...

I don't go by it. I just like to see how accurate it actually is. On my one truck (which is 4yrs older), it isn't nearly as accurate.

You'd think in the 21st century they could devise a method of measuring the flow of liquid which was accurate...

They do. GM is too cheap to use it, instead they rely on MAF flow and the known fuel flow rate at that MAF rate versus speed, IIRC. Something along those lines, anyhow...

so interesting enough today. went to fill up. car had just above the orange 1/8 tank mark in it. went to fill it up, expecting get about 14.8-15 gallons in the car. pump was moving extremely slow. about 1 gal every 12 seconds.

look down and gas is pouring out of the filler neck and down the side of my car onto the ground.
apparently the auto shut off on the pump that I was using has been "acting up" today according to the employees inside. they then bicker about who thought somebody put an Out Of Order bag on it, but nobody did after it had happened that morning also.

so the $2 I saved by going to a different station near my house instead of the one next to my work ended up costing me the same. at least the employee were nice enough to comp me a fountain drink and a hot dog afterwards. would've preferred that 0.4 gallons of gas for my lawn mower though. ha.

Pushing it is never a great idea. You're not cooling your fuel pump as well as possible, and you can run out.

Always remember, the further you are into the tank, the less accurate the gauge gets.

Yea i usually wait till my check guage light comes on to fill up, so the other i did as i always do and ended up rolling down the freeway to the gastation this time. Guess i cant trust that check guage light. Mine took 18.5 dead empty.

My tank never sees bellow half. I don't like to fork out a days work of cash to fill my car up. The only time I let it go down to 1/4 tank is if I had a big purchase that week and I had to manage my spending on other things as well.

^^I had that same problem once with my old car. Only I think I put a good $1.50 on the ground before I realized what the hell was going on. Now I stand out by the pump just in case, even if its crappy weather.

Most I ever put in was 19.078 gallons in a "18.5 gallon tank".... Filler tube I guess... lol.

But as far as a warning, my gauge said I was on full. The gauge stops working once I get under a half a tank, so I always go by how many miles on my trip. No big deal.
