I've had a reputable tranny shop rebuild one for my 88 SSE and my 01 SSEI. The SSE was $800 and the SSEI was $1200. Both had a 30 day warranty on anything. I have had no issues with either rebuild until last week. I have put about 80,000 miles on my SSEI since the rebuild and the drive band inside broke. Ended up costing $600 for them to pull the tranny get inside find and fix the problem, flush the system replace the filter and add new fluid. To me its worth it, I love the car and am going to keep it until I can't fix her anymore. You just have to figure out what you want and decide what you're limits are.

Mine was 2200 out the door with pretty much everything except the hardened input shaft. Little on the high end but I know if/when things go wrong I should be taken care of.

Well I still haven't decided lol. Its nice to hear what some of you have done facing a bad tranny situation. It looks like if I decide to keep and fix it.... its going to be 2-3k dollars. At first I didn't want to acknoweldge this, but I've accepted it now. If I did keep it I kind of like the idea of getting a rebuilt TEP tranny, then having it installed.
Yet I'm still considering selling it the way it is, taking a loss and moving on. I like Pontiacs though. I wish I could buy my 2000 WS6 Formula Firebird back, but that car was so rare that guy will never sell it back to me. I like everything about the GTO's, except that they look like a Honda. The whole point of buying this Bonneville was to have a nice car that I could drive summer and winter.

I'm about to break 200,000 miles on her and I think I'm gonna need to replace the water pump, trans shop said it was weeping heavily, and new front shocks. I know that's been in my sig for the longest time. I'm keeping her, they're great cars! DD or toys or both!!!
