Best one i've ever used. Use a ratchet on it, don't tighten it like an ape, and you're good!

Now the BMW cartidge has a 36mm socket ontop of it... But it's the first thing behind the radiator.

Hand tighten, hand loosen.

Otherwise its the band wrench. I got the small one and the big one(even though there are really no more vehicles that use a filter with a diameter bigger than an PF47 or a 52)

Which reminds me to look to see if there is a longer filter for the 4x4 5.3L.....

I've got the same socket as Jason. On the Bonneville its pretty easy to do by hand, but on the Explorer and G8, you need a socket, fingers do not fit beside the filters in those units...

I am usually going to use just my hands, or a strap type if I can't get it to turn without tools. I have a couple of the cap type left over from previous vehicles, and liked using that, depending on application and access. The cars I have now all provide decent access, so I haven't had to work very hard at removing filters.

I bought a metal 'cup' style wrench to fit the end of the oil filter on my Ford Ranger work rig, but the last and only time I've needed to use it was to remove the one that was installed when I purchased the truck. Bill Clinton was President then, and most of us didn't have a cell phone yet...

I had to buy a nylon version of that style wrench to remove the filter that 'Strippy Lube' overtorqued onto my wife's SE, but I doubt I'll ever need it again, as long as I'm the donkey who installed the oil filter previously...

If you lubricate that rubber filter gasket with some motor oil and tighten by hand, you'll be able to take it off with nothing more than your paws...
