The only "problem" I forsee with this setup is having to coil the cable up somewhere when not in use. Other than that it should be the same.

I think the XM modules were the same cross-vehicle.

You are correct Mike, the XM modules were the same. Installed the adapter cord in the truck this past weekend, works like a charm. I'll be hard wiring in my extra Roady XT cradle later this week, using the truck's factory XM antenna. Thanks again for doing the leg work on this.

I would do this, but since I have a ton of CD-R's, and 12 Disc changer, I can just burn a new CD when i add some new music to my computer.

I'm just such a fan of the iPod and it's portability that this made my day. My daily commute is 80+ miles, so having a little entertainment really makes things easier.

No, I love my iPod as much as the last guy, but with XM and a 12 disc changer, I don't need another thing taking up space, and it's one less thing to get stolen out of my car at any point. More power to you guys that've done it, maybe when I'm in college I'll want it, until then I'll burn CD-R's.

Im just wondering if you guys ever thought of installing an aftermarket head unit like an Alpine double din that is a DVD player and provides an input made solely for you Ipod so you can run your Ipod from your head unit?? I have a 2004 Yukon XL Denali with an Alpine d-310 and in my Bonneville GXP I have a W205 head unit and both radios have a port specifically made for the Ipod plus you get the added bonus of a DVD player with a nice 7" touch screen in your ride. Just a thought?

Lots of us like the stock interface, and running 1 wire is much easier than dealing with the hassle of installing a new HU, etc. There are others that have aftermarket head units and have gone that route. Everyone wants something different out of their car, and everyone is entitled to do what they feel is best for themselves. You went the aftermarket HU route, others have gone this route. Both get similar results, and please the owners of their respective cars.

Your post is generally asking if people who are finding ways to rig up an iPod input into the factory radio have considered going aftermarket with a deck that has direct support for an iPod, and telling us about your own setup along those lines.

Lots of us go aftermarket. Some of us —like me, did so expressly for native iPod support from the head unit. Going aftermarket also can give you built-in support for expanding your system with outboard amps, subs, and signal processors.

There are reasons people keep the stock head units. Some models perform very well. People like the factory look. People don't want to lose integration with their door chimes, heads-up display, On-Star system, or other factory system features. People don't want to or can't spend the money on a new system when all they want to do is add one input device. —These are all reasons people keep the factory head unit and look for other ways to integrate an iPod input.

The cable you used, did you make it, and if I order the parts will mouser have them.

Will this work on all decks.

I have an 04 without xm or a changer.

Also what is special about the class 2 serial, I have not googled it yet.

You need the XM module to wire it as described.

I have a few questions about this setup. I have a 2001 SSEI without XM or a factory CD changer and the radio face does not have a button for an AUX, XM or CD changer setup.

How would I switch to this audio input in that situation?

Also if I wanted to use just a 3.5mm audio jack input would I just be required to wire L, R and ground or would the serial 2 need to be involved in some sort of way?

The optional CD changer on 2001 SSEi is controlled with the CD player buttons. There is not a separate button for an Aux input as XM also was not available. Therefore, the mods posted a few years ago will not work in your car. Your radio is designed to work with the Bose amp so putting in a radio with these functions for a 2002-2005 will not work as the interface with the Monsoon amp used in 2002-2005 is different. Most people who want an easy solution will use a cassette adaptor or FM modulator to play music from their hand held device

If you are already setup with a CD changer in the trunk, I believe a PAC Auxiliary Audio Input Interface Part Number PXDX will work.
You will have to live without the CD changer though.

Side note:
PAC site says an AAI-GM9 will work but I found wiring was not compatible.
I called up PAC and described the harness on my CD changer (GM # 25708970). They said it will not work and I had to use a PXDX.
I didn't buy it because my wife preferred to keep the CD changer.
