Not on this engine :-( There are 2 bolts on the even number cylinder bank and for the bracket and they are on the LIM. One is where the number 6 cylinder is and the other by the number 4. - BC

You need to do as stated first... Yank that front valve cover again, get the #1 TDC and check the rockers... However I seriously doubt you have jumped time...

when you turn the ignition on does the fuel pump run for 2 seconds?

The last few times you tried to start it, it backfired through the intake correct?

Is there anything else you can think of to add?

Yes, it backfires through the TB when you try to start it. Sometimes the starter will not turn the engine over. I've run the battery down and I have the charger on it now.

Despite what some think, do appreciate the help. I've been trying the best I can to do as instructed and provide information as requested. I admit I don't get the point sometimes (no longer the sharpest knife in the drawer and haven't been for a while). - BC
Has the Crank sensor ever been replaced? as well has the PCM ever been replaced? Don't go replacing these just yet, just curious...

Okay, patience guys. If I didn't want your advice, I wouldn't be here. You gotta remember your dealing with a broke down old man. The ambient temprature of the coolant in the radiator in the garage is 100F+, and that's with the car not running in almost a week. I've been doing the best I can with the advice your giving, but it's tough when the spirit is willing and the body goes WTF???????

You want to make my day? Get me through this so I don't have to replace the engine or rebuild it. As far as driving the wheels off it, so far I think I've done a pretty good job of that. The ole car has 281k+ miles on it and doesn't look so bad either.

Besides you must not have read what came at the end of 4
[[ but I have no problem with the help and it is much appreciated. ]]

You guys are kind touchy. Kinda like a couple of techs I use to work with at Compaq. Reading things into something no meant. - BC[/quote]

If you were closer, I would come and help in person.

Care to finance a little vacation for me? I could use it!

I had the timing chain replaced at 150K miles. I had them replace the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor too. The mechanic showed me where the chain had done something to the crank sensor, so instead of waiting for it to fail had him do that too. - BC

You and I could both could use a vacation, I think. You're welcome to stay here, if you can put up with the two of us "cranky old people". We have grand-kids during the day sometimes too. If you drove, the drive from El Paso to Houston is a killer to do in one day. Don't drive at night from El Paso to San Antonio - deer, lots of deer feeding next to the pavement on I-10.

The youngest son is covered up in work now or I would have "drug" the car over to his place. Thanks for the offer of help. If you were close by I'd say some on over now - ha ha ha. - BC

Had the nylon strip off the timing gear in an '87, which was much more likely to do something like that. Besides a compression check, and checking the valves, one of the symptoms was that if someone cranked the engine, and holding your hand over the throttle opening, you could feel the compression stroke come out the intake.

Thanks for helping a "cranky" old man. I finally got the car running this evening.

What was wrong? I really don't know. I believe it was either
1. MASF - I cleaned it as instructed
2. the battery must not have had a full charge on it and I didn't know it
3. Both 1 & 2

Any way, it's back together and now back to trying to fix the A/C blowing clod air only out the defrost vent. That is on another thread and I have been instructed on how to remove the vacuum lines off the control unit by someone on the board (gmman?).

Thanks again to eveyone! - BC

Be sure to check your battery cables/connections for corrosion/rot. Check the ENTIRE length of the cables. Also test your battery, if you haven't already. If it's older than 3 years, maybe time for a new one anyway. Check your alternator output, too.

Glad you got her running again!

Now you understand why we were so shocked about your desire to swap motors.

That shouldn't even enter your mind without at least a compression check and pan drop. Ever.

That's what happens when you get frustrated and can no longer do what needs to be done. I do appreciate the help. It took me what, a week to be able to do what needed to be done? It took me three days to just figure out the GFIC outlet was tripped. - BC

1oldman you've got to stop referring to yourself as a crippled old man even if you are. It might take you longer to do the projects but who cares. You've got time on your side to do these projects and take how ever long you want. :btruestory:

My grandpa turned 80 yrs. old this year and he changed the water pump in his 95 Olds 88. It took him a week to do it but he still did it himself.

Just remember, get busy living or get busy dying. :bdead:

Believe me, I am very happy for those that can do things. My wife gets mad at me because I won't be still. She sez she gets tired just watching me. I've got a powder room I've been working on since January 2010, and a fence for a couple of months. I do the things I have the energy and strength for and save the rest for later - LOL! and that isn't counting grandkids too.

Just don't expect more out of me than I've got to give is my only request. No pity as it serves no constructive purpose. - BC

My great uncle was 68 years back, and he was on top of the roof on a summer day... I asked him " what the H*** are you doing up there ??, Its hot as H*** " He said " I'm doing shingles, what the H*** does it look like I'm doing.... Maybe you should climb up here and help me !! " I said " yeah don't think so, little to hot for me... " He called me a wimp....LMAO

Great Uncle Art just kept going like that... Its how he stayed young...
