I appreciate the help. If it is knock, wouldnt it do it more with hard accelleration though? there are no codes and runns like a champ. I do not drive it hard at all, I need this to last me awhile. I will switch to premium. The octane boost is apparently very misleading, I was under the impression that they raised the rating by 1.0 instead of 0.1... what a load of crap...

So, Ive been running 91 octane for several tanks now. My fuel ecomony has improved, but the sound is still there. I really dont think its engine related... Ive had that problem with my tranny where it has a hard time shifting out of O/D. Thats when I notice the tapping sound... Anyway, Thanks everyone for the good advice. I still am going forward with the pulley swap, but will have her scanned for KR ...

You're a fool that will soon be parted with his car if you swap SC pulleys when you have a known issue with the car.

i've got a smaller pulley and removed it do to some issues with my car. i've got a miss and some tranny issues that have started. i'd advise waiting like everyone else has said.
if you're wanting the car to last awhile i'd wait until you figure out the knock. you say it's not engine related? how do you know? where is the noise coming from?

like I said.... I'm getting the car scanned first before I move forward with anything. I don't believe theres any call to be calling someone a fool for playing with his toy..

Hes saying that you have known issue with your car, and you are going to mod on top of it anyways, yes that is a foolish thing to do. And you could lose your engine in the process.

Also you said this....
LAIDBACKLUKE wrote: I do not drive it hard at all, I need this to last me awhile.
...why do you want to drop pulleys then?

We're not trying to be mean here, just being realistic.
Fix your issues, then mod.

I really dont drive it hard.... I just like the power to be there if I need it. And every now and then I step on it, but not like I redline it or anything... Thanks again all. I'll figure out whats going on then finish modding.

Take it from me, it just takes one stab of the throttle to blow a motor. Find that clatter.

If you're really trying to be a big brother, then why don't I see his underpants up and over his head? I mean, c'mon, other than a super wedgie, what else is a big brother for?
Seriously, they've got your best interest in mind....find the noise and fix it first.

To really help you, it would help us if you could get a video with sound so we can hear what is going on.

So I was wondering, in town I've run across a service station that has 93 octane.. Any benefit to 93 vs 91 octane? thanks.

93 is betterish than 91. 91 is minimum for premium.
Did you get a scan and see how much knock retard(KR) you have?

I havent found a shop around here that can do it... can an obd2 scanner do it? Or is this a special scan tool?

It's not necessarily "special" but it needs to be a decent scan tool. If someone has a Snap On scanner it should read KR.

Or if you plan on nodding in the future I would suggest the Aeroforce gauge.
