Just curious about how this fix has been holding up for others who may have done it.

I did this about 2 1/2 years ago and now it is about as bad as when I started.
The car is always outdoors though - exposed to year round seasonal weather with salt and direct sun.
Considering the exposure, it may have faired well, but it didn't hold up as well as original (it has blotchy faded spots and has shrunk & wrinkled on the ends.)

It's time to re-do it and I was wondering if anyone has had any better luck with different brands (I used MacTac 9800 series).

Has anyone tried clear-coating the vinyl for extra protection?

It was funny, when Andrew saw my car for the first time, one of the first things he notice was that my molding is perfect. Not sure how, but it looks almost new except a couple spots on the drivers door. Good fix to keep in mind. Looks great.

Mine were perfect 3 years ago, now all the door moldings and the window trim are looking terrible.

I'd be curious as to if there is anything special on our Buick Enclave. It has factory vinyl wrap on the B/C pillars and still looks great (4 years old). The only difference is it's a matte texture.

There is a product I may have to try called Plasti Dip. I just read about it on Autopia. I guess it's a rubber product, and they have an aerosol version that works good for trim. The only thing I'm not sure about, is it will have a textured look, so I'm not sure if I will like it. I'm also not sure on durability, as they say it is easily peeled off. I've yet to find any comments on having it on more than a few months.

Plasti-dip is like what you put on the handles of a pair of pliers.

Plastisol is what you are thinking of. That is a thicker, very durable coating.

Here's the thread on Autopia I was reading. Go about halfway down the page. Has a slight texture, but doesn't look bad. Looks like the trim he started with looks exactly like mine now.

its been 4 years and they still look like when I installed them.

Plastidip is awesome stuff, but you will have a texture. The best thing is, it peels right off, and isn't 100% permanent.

Would it be a bad idea to paint them? Or would I be better off covering them with the vinyl?

That was my question too. There has to be a good 2 part paint out there that will hold up

This write up is fantastic! I'm seriously considering redoing the trim on my car now.

I do have one question though-- the trim on my drivers side door is cracked and has come unpeeled from the metal part of the trim in a few places. Do i just remove the black trim altogether and throw the matte black on instead? or do i need to buy a whole new set of trim?

you can sand down uneven spots and if a piece of the "rubber" is missing you could use filler.

Has anybody removed the upper moldings? Mine are shot also. Going to do this in the spring. I'm going to spray mine. I did a previous vehicle with bumper/trim paint and it lasted at least until I gave car to nephew which was a few years. I would just prefer to remove and paint.

I was wondering if you could use just regular black spray paint, like how long would that hold up?

I did the window trim on the doors and they came out great...I used the Carbon Fiber glossy but could not do the window tops. Can anyone tell me how to remove them or should I apply the covers with them on?

You can only remove the Front door trim around the window. The Rear door does not come off unless you want to remove the small piece of window glass
