Jason, they're plenty for 99.9% of GXP owners. I understand they're not good for Road Racing, etc, but for a DD they're great.
Just be sure to leave yourself plenty of room for stopping.
I'm gonna do it! I'm going to tow with the GXP!

The point of this comment, wasn't about the GXP brakes. I was saying they're the best on a Bonneville isn't saying anything. That's like saying I can ride my bike better than all of the kindergardeners at the school a block away.BonneMe wrote:Which isn't saying ANYTHING.00Beast wrote:The GXP has the best brakes ever put on any Bonneville.
Are they fine for 3 miles towing a small boat? Probably, brake like you would in winter conditions, start earlier (2-3x earlier) and if possible avoid busy areas where you might have to do emergency braking. As bill mentioned, keep the weight balanced to really keep the weight on the trailer wheels as much as possible.

That was exactly my point. The brakes work great in the situations you described. However, they were not designed to stop a loaded car + 1800lbs of boat/trailer. I think you will also run into legal trouble if you have an accident while towing since your vehicle is not rated for it. I've seen stories on truck websites where insurance companies refused to pay because the person was over the GVWR. My family has owned boats for years, so I have experience towing them. It is scary when people cut you off or pull out in front of you and stop/slow down, even with trucks equipped with brakes to handle way more than a small/mid sized boat. If your going to tow with your GXP, I'd look at trailer brakes and/or upgraded brakes on the GXP.00Beast wrote:Jason, they're plenty for 99.9% of GXP owners. Thanks for all the replies! We went and picked up the new Seadoo jet boat with a borrowed Avalanche since I don't have my hitch installed yet on the GXP. After that experience I'm sure the GXP will do just fine.
