Thread title really says it all. My AC clutch is locked up and it is shredding itself to bits and shaking the engine quite a bit.
Instead of going with a new($$$) compressor, I decided to get an AC delete pulley since there isn't a way to reroute a belt (is there?).
So, if anyone has done this, feel free to chime in. The bolts are barely sticking out, so my first task is to find a way to get a ratchet on them.
Anyone who's taken out the compressor feel free to chime in as well. The car isn't running so well, so if there is a way to avoid taking it to a shop to release the refridgerant, let me know.
Thanks again guys,
kam

Boy, it has been a long time, but I know my neighbor just bought a shorter belt for an L27 and rerouted it when his compressor locked up. Worked fine.

It looks like the water pump will turn backwards if I go for a shorter belt.
Kinda have to have a pulley down there.
Anyone have experience pulling a compressor out of a 92 Bonne L VIN?

i know you have a L27, and this is my L67, but it may help.

i am pretty sure you can skip the ac the same way i did. (or similar)

Hmmm.
Looks like I may be able to figure a way to do it.
Anyone know what length I should be going for?
Ball park estimate?

you know what, i know its possible. i helped my freind with his cutlass cierra which had the 3.3. same engine (basically), and belt routing as your L27. i dont remember exact length, but for some reason 75 inches comes to mind.
but, you can do what I did in the pic above, and use the old belt as a size reference. mark where you pinch it, and just measure. but measure linear, not folded in half. and just a heads up, its rare to get the correct one first try. I would suggest buyin 3-4 sizes close to what you measure, and return what you dont use.

this is a bad paint of the same pic above, but your routing should look something like this. you get the idea

Yeah, I've bypassed A/Cs before having to guesstimate the belt size.... I do the same thing. Get about 4 and return the ones that don't fit. I just couldn't figure a way to do it with this belt, but the sketch looks right. Haven't had much time so I haven't actually went out there and looked at the belt diagram under the hood, but from memory it looks like everything will be turning the right way.Wes wrote:you know what, i know its possible. i helped my freind with his cutlass cierra which had the 3.3. same engine (basically), and belt routing as your L27. i dont remember exact length, but for some reason 75 inches comes to mind.

Now, since all Bonne's that year were built with AC, will having a faster belt rotation effect the other accessories?

Ummmm....the belt speed will be the same in terms of how fast the other accessories are driven. That is determined by the ft per second speed of the belt. And that is determined by the speed of the crankshaft pulley, not the length of the belt. The crankshaft speed with or without the AC should be controlled by the PCM. Now, the belt itself may wear a little faster because, being shorter, it will make more revolutions per 100 crankshaft rpm than a longer belt, but I doubt you will notice that.kamspy wrote:...
