Which air intake would you get?

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

OK, I agree. But this one was $39, the FWI one is $179. Any ideas how to extend the current installation?

The one you have posted will be sucking hot air from around the engine, and in my own opinion would be a complete waste of money.
When the car is in motion, how is hot air going to flow forward? I think your right about it sucking in hot hair but it's only happening when your stopped? The forward progress of the car and the fan pushing air back would keep hot air from entering the filter...No/Yes?
Though, I would actually like to extend my intake a little to make sure I'm not getting any hot air.

You want the coldest air possible because cold air is denser than hot air. it means it has more O2 per square inch than hot air. So more 02/square inch means that the PCM will dump MORE fuel to compensate for the leaner mixture, which in turn means more power.

couldn't the L36 HAI in the picture be remedied by a heat shield that insulates the filter from the engine heat?

i know some people on here have many different heat shields over similar looking intakes.

A better option may be finding a large silicone coupler and placing that in between a gutted stock airbox and the throttle body. Also sealing the air box to the front of the car so you're only pulling in outside air. My gutted and otherwise stock intake gets pretty toasty in traffic, with some reported intake air temps at 120-130*F.

Hypermilers would be drooling over that warm-air intake since it forces the engine to cut fuel with the warmer intake air.

Which parts would I need from Intense to make a FWI for the L27? I contacted Todd from Intense, and he wasn't sure.
