Window Regulator Just Broke!
Well, I've read all about it on the forum, but now it's happened to me! I was putting up the left rear window in my 2000 Bonneville SSEi on Sunday and "bang"... something snapped inside the door. I'm assuming the regulator wire broke.
I work at a dealership and my price to replace the regulator/motor assembly is $460!!! Ouch!
I went out to ebay and found the following after-market replacement units:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... =p3907.m32
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... =p3907.m32
A couple of questions...
Are these products acceptable?
Are they direct replacements?
How hard to install?
Any installation instructions out there?
Using one of these products and doing the job myself would save me hundreds. What do you guys think?
Thanks for the help.
Martin

Re: Window Regulator Just Broke!
I have seen forum members recommend those highly, and others have disapproved. I figure, even if it only lasts half as long as the factory unit, thats going to get you 4 years, and save you tons.
I did mine about a year ago (before I found the club) and used an aftermarket unit from a local scrapyard that sells some aftermarket parts. It was $125 and has been fine for me this long. As for instructions, its pretty straight forward. There are instructions on removing door panels on several different threads, but like I said, I was able to feel my way through it even though I'm not super inclined.
Pretty simple work if you ask me, and as for the eBay part, I'd go for it. Thats what I'll be using if I have another one go bad (I almost never use my windows, so its not likely to happen again).

Re: Window Regulator Just Broke!
I have installed 2 window regulators in my Cadillac in the coarse of two weeks. They both did the same pop-N'-drop.
They both use the same GM plastic parts that get brittle and crack. They look similar to yours. Mine were easy. I went to Partstrain.com to buy mine. Cadillac wants between 4 and 6 hundred depending where you go. I saved quite a bit of cash.
$60.00 each. I am not happy with how one wobbles going up. I am not sure if I set the window back in wrong, or the part wasn't the best.
I will have to remove the panels AGAIN! to adjust the window.
You can do it

Re: Window Regulator Just Broke!
I got mine from Window Motor World Inc who claims that 95% of their stock is OEM, or they have refurbished these to stronger than new. It's been holding up nicely for two years, and gets a lot of abuse form my son.
Check out their site. And the feature product on their main page?... you guessed it... Bonneville regulator! You are NOT alone... LOL

Re: Window Regulator Just Broke!
I'm with harofreak00 on this. The fix works great.
For less than $10 bucks and about an hour to make the part, fixes the prob and it WON'T happen again

Re: Window Regulator Just Broke!
The repair in this forum may work great if there is no damage to the cables. My cables were frayed and damaged. So I sent them to Mirror Gaurd to be repaired. They cost about $85 bucks but they are completely rebuilt with new parts and very quick turn a round.

Re: Window Regulator Just Broke!
I've repaired regulators with the frayed and damaged cables without problems. They're a little harder to work with, because they can be sharp. The cables are more than strong enough to work with some broken strands, and any kinks straighten out when tension is applied. Deciding to purchase over repair is fine. However, I don't want people discouraged who may want to try it, just because of some frayed cables.
