Bonneville Homecoming assembly plant cruise

Post by smskeeter23 »

Been kicking this idea around for a while now and thought I'd throw it out here to gauge interest...

"10th Gen Bonneville Homecoming" As most of you may know all of the 2000-2003 Bonnevilles were built at the Orion plant as well as 9th gen from 94-95. The primary focus would to make this a cruise from a predetermined spot to the factory grounds for a photoshoot. Depending on interest I may contact GM to see if there are any plant tours available or "special" spot we could use for pictures. The Hamtramck plant could also be added if there is enough interest since that is where the 2004-2005 Bonnevilles were built and it is not too far away.

There is some talk of a possible fall mini-meet and this would be a great time to do it. That would likely put it around October 8th. If that didn't work for some reason we could look into a group campsite or hotel.

I haven't really done any planning yet because I just don't know if there is any interest at all. Y'all let me know and if there is I'll start working on some details. If not I'm just taking a drive up there the next time we're in Michigan. It might make me a powerdork but I think it'd be pretty cool to get a picture of the car at it's birthplace :)

I was up at Orion Assembly during the W-body/3800 gathering, its pretty awesome to know that the car was sitting somewhere on the grounds nearly 13 years ago.

there is a awesome spot you can get the sign in the backround.

That's funny Pat I was wondering if you would chime in here... part of the idea came from seeing your picture when you posted it after the meet. We almost drove up there from Matt's on the way home but ran out of time.

Bumping this back up in the active topics a bit... looks like a decent group willing to do it.

The question now though is whether or not the same people could do it on a Friday?

The plant isn't open on Saturday so the likelihood of getting on the grounds at all is slim at best and obviously if we wanted to do a tour that would be out as well.

I'd be incredibly surprised if the plant closed for a Saturday, unless it was a holiday.

I might be able to do a Friday evening. Not able to take the day off.

Well I'm just going off of what the contact and plant info says online right now I haven't actually contacted them yet. But I assume the offices are closed on weekends.
