94 se won't rev past 2.5k rpm

Post by The Third »

When the car is in od or drive it won't rev further than 2500rpm. If I select 1 and 2 manually it will pull hard all the way to redline, it will also rev past 2500 in park but will die immediately after if I let off the throttle. The crank position sensor, tps, fpr, and fuel filter are new within the past 5K miles. The check engine light does come on intermittently, but being a 94 I have no way to scan it.

Hmm. Many parts stores will loan you a scan tool. Just gotta specify it's the hybrid obd 1.5 pcm.

I've tried all the parts stores around here, as soon as I mentioned obd1.5 they looked at me like I had just asked them what the meaning of life was. I'm going to be putting the car up for sale in a few days, I was just hoping I wouldn't have to list it for a few hundred less because of a minor issue.

When my '94 did this, the pcm was bad. I replaced it with one from Adv Auto and it lasted three
months before failing exactly the same way. With their one year warranty I got another one and
it has lasted since then, about 10 months so far.
