Any thoughts or experiences with this car?
I have a good friend who is looking at one.
He knows I'm a GM guy and was asking me
to pick it apart for him and help him make
a decision.
It's the older style, with 4 cylinder.
Low mileage 53K
It seems like they get good reviews, but who knows.

Yikes! Is this typical or just a collection of the problems?
People always scream about problems but rarely praise
expected normalcy.
Hard to judge internet posts.

dont know man: here is the info on a 2000 bonneville - some are lack of proper maintenence but the rest are known issues............http://repairpal.com/pontiac-bonneville-2000/problems
I do believe that ford quality is not up to par with our rides but thats a subjective opinion.

Re: 2009 Ford Fusion
My family used to have a 08 Mercury Milan (the fusions sister). it nickel and dimed us for about 5 months until we sold it. very unsatisfied, just thought id share since we owned one. our mileage was also higher though, we bought it with 130k on it and sold at 130.5k.

I know Jerry had gotten one for his at-the-time lady, I'll see if he could chime in.

My sister in-law has one, nothing really here or there on it. So far it has seemed trouble free, save for a flat if I recall, but that has nothing to do with the quality of it, just that she, like my Wife, is a nail hunter.

Re: 2009 Ford Fusion
Have dealt with two of them actually, a 2011 four-cylinder SE for the lady-at-the-time, but that one is a different body style from the one here.00Beast wrote:I know Jerry had gotten one for his at-the-time lady, I'll see if he could chime in.
My dad has had a 2006 SEL V6 for the last three years, and it's been pretty good to us. Purchased with 81k miles, and it has about 110k now. The 3.0L Duratec is pretty dependable, and the Aisin 6-speed automatic on the V6 is good too. Interior is pretty well equipped (better fit and finish than the Bonneville IMO), and it drives nice. It's basically a Mazda 6 underneath, without the weird rust issues - the double wishbone front suspension sure does help. Reliability wise, it's been only wear and tear: brakes, suspension (shocks and sway bar endlinks), and tires. There's a bit of an intermediate steering shaft clunk, but those who have been around the 2000+ Bonneville will be pretty used to that.
Honestly, for the 2006-2009 first generation Fusion, I would avoid the four cylinder. the 2.3L isn't the most fuel efficient, and the 5-speed automatic in the four bangers is a Mazda built unit that isn't too refined. The second-gen 2010 got a Ford 6F35 six-speed and the four banger got bumped up to 2.5L, which would be the better buy IMO.
