Hello. 2001 SLE Bronze Mist

Post by tatroj12 »

I'm the second owner of my 2001 Bonneville, my dad being the first. 180,000 miles, and in dire need of maintenance. Head gaskets, fuel pump, fuel sensor, rear window motors, and so. much. more.

Welcome,
That's a nice looking car you have there, here is a great page that has the fixes to alot of the common problems on the 2000+ Bonnevilles. http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 25362.html

Welcome to the Club! I believe Bronze Mist is one of the Club member's favorite color's. As far as head gaskets failing on the 3800, that rarely happens. You probably have the Lower Intake Manifold (LIM) gaskets failing, especially if the Dexcool hasn't been properly changed in the cooling system. I strongly suggest reading all the information contained under TECHINFO. Here is a link to the “Care and Feeding Section”: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... d-feeding/

Welcome!

As mentioned above, head gaskets are almost never an issue on these motors.

I had to replace the motor about 3 years ago. Apparently the poor thing didn't want to go faster than 95... And then one of the coolant elbows busted. When my boyfriend at the time replaced the elbow, he had to do the head gaskets. There's an oil leak from where the head gaskets sit in the motor. I'll post a picture here tomorrow.
