Fuel pump not working
Fuel pump not working
Fuel pump not working, PLEASE HELP. 97 Bonneville SSE sat for several years driven only occasionally. The battery went bad and I was unable to jump start the car. After replacing the battery, I found that the fuel pump was not working ( I listened to the pump while a helper turned the key on and I heard no buzz). I can get the car to start with starter fluid, but it dies after burning that off. I did the VATS bypass by using resistors, but still no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check the maxifuse center cover for a label that tells you where the fuel pump fuse or relay are.

Re: Fuel pump not working
Ok. I checked the fuel pump relay and it appears to be working ( I can feel it click while cranking the engine). I tried another relay with no better results. I put a jumper between pins 87 & 30 but got no fuel at the fuel rail.
Re: Fuel pump not working
I also checked the fuel pump fuse. Is the a place to check for voltage near the pump that I can get to without dropping the fuel tank? I'm wondering if it's a computer issue or a bad fuel pump.
Re: Fuel pump not working
Dont forget to check/bypass the fuel cutoff-impact sensor which is like a mechanical breaker that trips on impacts and cuts off all electricity to the pump.
Re: Fuel pump not working
Ok. Thanks for the heads up. Can you give me an idea where that would be?
