Their perogative is to do what GM tells them to, not what is right. We have no one paying us to tell you anything, we tell you what we believe is the best information because we want to help you keep your car in great shape and last forever, not bring it back to us for more money spent w/ us.

Second, changing coolant every two years is ridiculous. That should be a big warning sign, when a dealer tells you to ignore the 5, and do it every 2.

I recently discovered the dex-cool.net site myself and wanted to share my thoughts on the subject. Some say DEX COOL is bad. Some say its not, like this quote I found in another forum..

The argument made here seems to support the evidence that DEX is bad news. In a new car or cooling system filled with DEX, one would think there is no air in the system unless there is a gasket problem somewhere. What about the coolant overflow tank.? The majority of that volume is filled with air and can trigger the corrosive properties of the DEX. If that car has a pattern of frequent local trips, or a pattern of engine temp reaching target heat range and then parked for enough time to allow the radiator cap to do its job, there is the introduction of activated corrosive DEX that is cycled into the system. There doesn't need to be a gasket problem for the corrosive properties to enter the system. It does it by displacing the expanded fluid into the oxygen rich environment of the breathable over flow tank, then the transfer back to the radiator happens when the cooling process takes place and the functional cooling system does its job keeping air out and the liquid in. In a car that has a different use, such as mostly highway travel or sitting parked and seldom driven, the same process takes place, but at a much slower pace.
I really like the counter-argument about people should be maintaining their maintenance-free cooling system. The argument that blames a lack of "Routine or General Maintenance" holds no merit either. In the real world example presented on dex-cool.net, the DEX gaskets come from a 30K - 40K mile vehicle. Is it ludicrous to state that dismantling your engine down to the LIM gaskets at 40K miles when there is NO SIGN of problems is considered "Routine Maintenance".
The statement made about DEX having the same functional equivalent to other antifreeze is pure word play. It is like saying that a nuclear bomb has the same functional equivalency to a hand gun, or even a knife. The functional equivalency being "a weapon that can be used to kill someone." This is twisted logic.
