95 t-bird as donor for my 99 SSE (NEVERMIND, BAD IDEA)

Post by g2barbour »

on my 99 SSE I am having o2 trouble codes, intermittent electrical problems throughout, my fuel gauge doesnt work, my muffler is rusted open, etc.

but i also have a busted up 95 ford thunderbird with the 3.8! My thought is to take the fuel sending unit, o2 sensor, muffler and maybe the rear disc brakes from the t-bird (as my SSE has drum in rear). I will also be left with a perfectly good 3.8 to build or keep as a spare or sell.

does anyone know the extent of the interchangeability between these cars? is there anything on the t-bird that is an upgrade to the SSE? suspension pieces perhaps?

Those cars are COMPLETELY different. You might be able to use the wheels as the bolt patterns are close.

Basically the tires, gas, and maybe the oil and coolant could be swapped.

Ford 3.8 and GM 3.8 are completely different, nothing will swap from one to the other.

Anything with the Ford 3.8 needs to be taken out and burned, especially from the 94-95 model years.

I almost wonder if we are being trolled...

haha ok. i am not trolling. ive just never had a pontiac before, and i did have a 98 dodge avenger that had a mitsubishi engine and have seen other collaboration cars, and since it was called thunderBIRD and had a 3.8 i just hoped maybe it was a collaboration and that the drive train of the tbird was NOT ford (i would have gone to look but it is broken down a half hour away with a bad starter solenoid). the reason i was so excited is the prospect of selling the tbird to the scrap yard. EVERYTHING but the engine is broken on that thing....

the rims on the tbird are not too bad though - maybe i will try that
