Would like your feedback on a part

Post by loudog1972 »

Time has come to replace the disaster the unnamed national muffler shop did to my poor automobile. So long story short they welded the front pipe to the cat converter and causing this good awful rattle in the cat. Probably done when they hacked the new cat converter.. Still pisses me off any way I'm going to replace the down pipe and the cat converter again. I was debating if i should go with a 3 inch down pipe. Thought about this one http://www.3800performance.com/Merchant ... t_Count=25 or should i just do a factory type replacement ? Any other suggestions ?

Your feed back is always appreciated.

Depends on what you want to do further. My car has a 3" downpipe and a ported front exhaust manifold. and I'm happy with the performance, but if you're going to want "more" then you're probably just going to want to go right with headers.

ZZP used to make a 3" H-Body Downpipe, not sure if they do anymore, but that's the one I have. The biggest difference is the angle it comes off the rear manifold versus the W-body. It also eliminates the square flange that bolts to the Cat, which makes the exhaust 3" further back. I got mine for $140, then got a cat and got it installed.

I think you'd be happy with a 3" DP and high-flow (or even stock) cat. I had a 3" DP with a gutted HF cat on The Limo and that alone made a noticeable difference in power.

I emailed them (ZZ) a few days back about buying one of the H body downpipes for my 03 SE normally aspirated, BUT in a 2.5" diameter to keep low end torque. I got a reply today that they don't offer it in 2.5", but in my original email about 10 days ago, their employee replied they could "custom make" me a 2.5" with a nice cat. No price discussed but he did say shipping to my ZIP would be $16. I accidentally deleted that original email, so I sent the question again today....Now I'm confused if ZZ can make me one or not? ha ha

Hogan still makes a bolt on 2.5" Bonneville downpipe, bolts up to a stock cat if I remember correctly.
