Will ABS failing cause a brake to stick sometimes?
Will ABS failing cause a brake to stick sometimes?
I have been having my ABS light come on at random times after driving around. Sometimes it would be not at all. Then most recently the light has stayed on after starting the car its been this way for a bout a month. I don't typically care if the ABS light is on as I really like not having ABS, but today about half way to a 20mile journey. I notice a slight drop in performance all of a sudden. Get to my destination and get out and the passenger front rotor was bellowing smoke. My son said the tire is on fire daddy. That's how bad it was, no fire but a lot of smoke could feel excess heat coming out from the area and the smell of burnt brakes is now stuck in my winter coat. So after I get dune doing what I was doing. I have the trip back. The brake just seemed to magically stop dragging. No problems all the way back. Get back home and there is no difference between the heat coming from that side to the other front. So I took it for another ride around making sure to brake a lot basically around town then back. No problems. From what I understand the ABS when the light comes on is just basically turned off and the system is disabled. Is it possible that It caused the one caliper to stick?

That should be unrelated. It sounds like that caliper is bad.

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a way it could fail that would make it stick sometimes.

I guess I'm wrong the ABS light is on but AbS is clearly working can feel and hear it working. Tryed it out after installing a new caliper and brake line for the one that was sticking. Not sure if the sticking issue has went away as I haven't drove it enough to find out. Took it down the road and back and ABS is clearly working when using the brakes on mixed or loose surfaces I can feel and hear it pumping the brakes.
