if its original then its most likely bad. with the hood open, have someone in the car put the trans in Reverse and with the brake held down firmly give it a little gas, you will see the engine move alot and the mount will show seporation. search on the board for puck mount if you want to make a cheap better option to a original replacement, i also posted another bolt in option (with a couple spacers) that is a Vette motor mount if you want to try it i think that will be my next tinkering on mine.

Nice, seems like it has a bit of excess movment. once the mount is out youwill see the middle is most likely all blown out. looks like there is some craking around the top in the pic. again if its original then its prob bad.

Yeah I can't wait to replace it. I would like to do the puck mod since I already have pucks. What diameter of threaded steel rod should I get? I'm assuming I would use some tension washers as well...

I prefer a 1/2" by 8" bolt. One less nut to worry about loosening up...

Do you like vibration or like it smooth?
Solid would be pucks sandwitched between the subframe and mount, with a bolt and nut. Anytime you have torque to the wheel's it's in tension with no give. Works good for launching, but engine vibrations translate directly to the subframe and through the steering wheel.

If you don't like vibration you need to put a bushing on top and/or bottom, more bushing = less vibration so you could tune it for a 'best of both worlds', between the bolt head and sub-frame or between the nut and the mount. This will have a little give during launch, but overall is going to be much smoother.

You do want the bushings under the head of the bolt. I get no vibrations, but all the benefits of the solid mount. You probably need to replace your sway bar endlinks anyways, so just take one of the old bushings from that.

Good idea! But I had my sway links replaced last summer and don't have the old parts. I actually settled with a stock replacement engine mount since I don't have access to essential tools for installing the puck mod. I'm going off to college next year and for now I want to make sure my Bonneville is in good shape. But when I graduate and have my own place with tools... I will enjoy tinkering -

I just replaced my mount earlier this week. $40 + tax for the mount. Can't see going thru the PITA the hockey pucks entail for $40. The bottom bolt spun free because the mount was so bad. If that wasn't the case it's a 30-45 minute job.

Most of the aftermarket mounts seem to last about a month...
Like I said, my mount has no vibrations, and probably took another half hour to drill and install.

my '02 SE is on its 3rd front mount in a little less than the 7k miles Ive had it.
I plan in hitting the local hockey pro shop and hardware store this spring to make the puck mount.
