Advice on a small, cool running, meduim powered amp

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Advice on a small, cool running, meduim powered amp

Post by sandrock »

I am getting into the last phases of the interior refurb, which meant that the rear seat and deck are finally out of the car and getting cleaned up. At the beginning of the build, I decided to do away with the Onstar electronics entirely since they are no longer useful. I've taken out the entire electronics package on the passenger side and the associated wiring with it (the cellular module, the gps module and antenna). I've also decided to keep the Bose amp running the door speakers (Pioneer w/Infinity component tweeters in the front doors, Pioneer 5.25s in the rear doors), and have my Kicker 6*9s run on a dedicated amplifier, low passed, stereo.

Now, what I need is a 2-channel amp that is small enough to fit where the electronics package used to be and doesn't run too hot since there won't be any air circulating around it once the bulkhead cover goes on. I'm thinking about 200 watts RMS total will be plenty for the 6*9s. I'll be running these speakers as subs, signal coming from the head unit sub output.

Any input you guys have, lemme hear it. Thanks!

Pulled the trigger on a Hifonics Zeus 2 channel 400w. It should be more than capable of running the 6x9s in either mono or stereo mode ;)

Soundigital amps are pretty sick.

i ran the SD 8000.1 for awhile.

Already got my Zeus up and running. Got the output set at 28 volts AC @ 55Hz, 75% volume. Plenty of room where it's sitting and the rear package cover totally covers it. It's invisible! Too bad I can't see it light up though, the logo lights up blue.
