Re: Cluster Color
It's not amber, its red. It's classic Pontiac.
Pretty sure its the cluster that is red and not the lights, so aside from having a custom made panel, not much you can do.

Re: Cluster Color
If you're talking about the gear indicators, yes they can be changed, but it's a lot of work to remove the needles and cover to get at the LED's in there.

Re: Cluster Color
If you light it up from the back it's red. The light can't enter from the front so it looks white. Probably some sort of special paint I imagine. I know one guy on Youtube with a GTP who's got blue interior lighting, but honestly it's too much work. You could probably change it to purple if you wanted to with blue bulbs.

Re: Cluster Color
Its white in the day because the lights arent on. If you flip your headlights on during the day and cup your hands around your eyes and look closely at the dash, they are red.
Re: Cluster Color
The gauge face itself is glued to the cluster. The cluster comes apart by removing the back and the front cover, then removing the needles (VERY CAREFULLY) and then you can pull the board out. From there you would have to separate the face from the cluster. You would need to be INSANELY careful doing that, since it would be very easy to ruin it. After that you need to dissolve all the glue that holds it to the cluster, then you could sand the color off the back of the face. That is the only way you could change the color. Then you could either paint a new color there, or you could leave it clear. Unfortunately, it is lit using 8 small minibulbs, which means without the filter, you will get hot spots, and you won't get a pure white light out of it. To overcome that, you would have to paint the backs of the face with some type of clear white paint. Then you need to glue it back on and reassemble.
It is more work than it is worth, AND it is WAY too easy to damage it. You could pick up a used one or two to practice, but yeah. Lot of work, very little reward.
Lastly, it is an ish-ton of work to change the color of the lights behind as well. They are 12v minibulbs that are soldered to the board.

Re: Cluster Color
Every other car on the road has white or blue gauge illumination. Red is easier on your eyes anyway.

Agreed, I can drive at night in the middle of nowhere with my illumination on full without bothering my eyes.yourgrandma wrote:Every other car on the road has white or blue gauge illumination. Red is easier on your eyes anyway.
