You need the GM wiring adapter for your car and a dash kit for your car. That simple.
Oh, you'll also need the GM antenna adapter.

It's kind of a pain from what I've heard. Which adapter harness are you using?
Bye Bye:

Re: Installing aftermarket cd player
I had to run a seperate power wire from the fuse box under the backseat. One that was switchable with the key on and off.
Plus one for the memeory in the head unit.
Also since the tones your car makes.....key left in ignition.... low fuel...etc all run through your stock radio using your speakers as the output. Once you remove it you won't have any of these tones unless your adapter kit came with one.
I got my adapter from a shop that installs units in all kinds of cars/motorhomes etc.
http://www.installer.com/item/display_i ... it=GMRC-04 This is the adapter I used
They told me that these yrs of Bonnevilles are a headache. The stock is called Dock n Lock.
To get my aftermarket unit in the dash I had to trim alittle inside the dash.
After all that it is working fine. No problems.

What car is it going into? 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI, 2002 SLE? I assume the 02 SLE or you would have the bose radio..
Sounds to me like you have a generic harness that is not the correct one... when you say it doesnt turn on with the ignition but has power to it... does the headunit power up? use a test light/multi meter on the harness to test your constant and 12V Switched to see if they have constant power and switched power with the ignition. if the HU powers up but you don't have sound then i would look more at your wiring or the HU itself. IF you have a factory amp then your not getting the remote wire connected correctly to turn on the amp.
Did you harness have a electronic box inline with it? mine has like 3 boxes, kinda rediculas.

Re: Installing aftermarket cd player
the red wire is the ignition wire for the ignition to turn on the cd player when the ignition on. I put a test light to that and i got no voltage to it when the key is on. I put the stock radio back in and that works fine so this is making me
lol

And thats the same problem I had. Like I said before I had to run 2 wires to the fuse box under the backseat. One for power with key on and one for the memory.
If you click the link I posted earlier that's the adapter I used. The complete kit. Oh and you'll need the antenna adapter like
willwren said.

Re: Installing aftermarket cd player
When I installed my new head unit I had to use a dremel and take just a little off the inside edges of the opening so it would fit properly. Just take your time doing this. Removing to much could cause the new head unit to fit sloppy in the opening. Plus if you ever decide to get rid of the car and want to install the factory unit back, the opening would be to big.
Another thing I ran into was once everything was working it wouldn't fit because the depth with the adaptor made everything to tight against the back of the opening. I had to take the factory plug out of the slot in the back of the opening so there was room. Once I did all that it worked and fit fine.
It will work...just be patience and don't get mad.....
