My DIC has never been closer than .5 gallon, which equates to quite a bit over 250-300 miles.

Does anyone know all of what the 00+ DIC takes into account for the readings?

Average Fuel Economy
The average fuel economy is a function of the distance divided by the fuel used since the parameter was last reset. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel used. The IPC uses the distance information calculated for the odometer display. The average fuel economy parameter is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:

FUEL ECONOMY XX.X AVG MPG
FUEL ECONOMY XX.X AVG L/100 km
The XX.X represents the calculated average fuel economy value. The units of the display correspond to the current IPC setting. The average fuel economy is reset by pressing the RESET button for greater than 5 seconds while the AVG FUEL ECONOMY is displayed. The DIC displays 0.0 MPG for the English mode and 99.9 L/100 km for the metric mode when the parameter is reset.

Instantaneous Fuel Economy
The instantaneous fuel economy is a function of distance divided by fuel used over a short period of time. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel used. The IPC uses the distance information calculated for the odometer display. The instantaneous fuel economy parameter is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:

FUEL ECONOMY XX INST MPG
FUEL ECONOMY XX INST L/100 km
The XX represents the calculated instantaneous fuel economy value. The units of the display correspond to the current IPC setting. The instantaneous fuel economy cannot be reset by the driver.

Fuel Range
The fuel range is the estimated distance that the vehicle can travel without refueling. This calculation is based on the current fuel economy and fuel level conditions from the previous 40 km (25 mi) of driving. The IPC receives class 2 messages from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent, fuel used, and fuel capacity. The IPC uses the distance information calculated for the odometer display. The fuel range parameter is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:

FUEL RANGE XXX MI
FUEL RANGE XXX km
The XXX represents the calculated fuel range value. The units of the display correspond to the current IPC setting. The fuel range cannot be reset by the driver. When the fuel range is less than 64 km (40 mi) the DIC displays LOW.

Fuel Used
The fuel used parameter is the amount of fuel that has been used since the last parameter reset. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel used. The fuel used parameter is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:

FUEL USED XX.X GAL
FUEL USED XXX.X L
The XXX.X represents the calculated fuel used value. The units of the display correspond to the current IPC setting. The fuel used is reset by pressing the RESET button for greater than 5 seconds while the FUEL USED is displayed. The DIC displays a range from 0.0 to 99.9 GAL in the English mode and from 0.0 to 999.9 L for the metric mode.

I think some of the early 2000's didn't get the fuel used option. My blue 2000 didn't have it until I added my GXP cluster. Shannon's tan 2000 does have it.

The L27 is the way to go; I assume this Buick has the dynaride and 2.84 final drive ratio.

affirmative on the dynaride. the more i drive this car the more i love the ride. i'm actually not positive on the gear ratio, as i'm not familiar with what RPO codes indicate which gears.
