Tech info:

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

and search to get you started: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... mit=Search

I would start by cleaning the gas cap area and making sure the cap seals.

I cleaned up the gas cap area. But I don't think that is the problem, see, I didn't know the P0442 is related to the gas cap and whatnot. I have this problem in which my car (99 Aurora) will spit gas back out of the filler tube if I put more than approximately 1/4 of a gallon in at a time. I can hear the filler tube filling up, so I stop filling it until the gas drains out of the tube into the tank, which takes only a second. It takes quite a while to fill it up. I asked for help on this subject before, with no luck. Maybe you all can help me figure this out, as I believe this to be the real problem.

harofreak00 had a similar issue on one of his flips and ended up having a glow stick stuck in the filler neck, epic_pwn. I'd remove it and check for something caught in it.

Had this code on the GXP. Replaced the gas cap, cleared the code. That was two months ago and haven't seen the code since.

This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

It could be as simple as a bad gas cap or it could be small pin holes in the tube that goes to the evap canister or the fuel return line. Another thing that can set this code is refueling while the car is running.

The code cleared itself. IIRC it takes 3 consecutive successful running cycles to do that? Maybe it was just a dirty gas cap area. But I still don't think this will be the last of it. I still have to find out why it spits gas out if I fill it too fast. How do I get inside/remove the filler tube to see if its clogged?

Theres a vent tube for the gas tank, that could have clogged up.
